    red stitches on 987 s!

i ordered my car black with black leather, sport seats and steering, xenon, rear sensors, bose and wind deflector, red seat bellts,19 inch carrera classic, centre console silver...etc.i only regret one thing : red stitches! since i saw RCs pics of red stitches , i loved them!
gonna try to retrofit them at a specialized car leathershop and see the result!...
the dealer in porsche told me that i gonna have to drive the first 1000 km with z rpm below 3500 and then i will be able to explore the full p ower of the angine...
another thing he said that the oil change should be every 10000 km and not every 30000 as mentioned in catalogue! is this possible?....thanks for replies and will try to send you guys pics of car... and z red stitches.

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

    dorym,
    Welcome to the rennteam forum.
In the UK the advice that I got was to run the car in for the first 1800 miles at below 4000rpm. The oil changes are at 20,000 miles (30,000 kilometers) or 2 years according to both the manual and what my dealer told me, although I think I may change mine every year.

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

I'm happy you liked the red stiching. How the idea started? Well, we wanted a special Boxster but without choosing one of the lighter colours like red or yellow because of certain reasons (neighbors, business, etc.). After choosing black met. as the exterior colour, we wanted to go for a two tone interior but Porsche unfortunetely offers only a black/grey combo right now. Looks pretty boring. So we wanted to go for a yellow stitching because of the yellow brake calipers (PCCB). My wife didn't like the yellow brake calipers, so we tried to go for red PCCB calipers instead. Porsche asked another 2800 Euro or so for red calipers, so we abandonded the idea of getting PCCB and went for the original brake with red calipers instead. My dealer had a 997 with red stitching on black leather and it looked gorgeous in reality. The pictures don't really show the real thing, it looks much more classy in reality.
The only thing which doesn't really go with the interior are the instrument dials which come in a light silver tone.
Unfortunately the red dials are a bit too much (I saw them on a 997), the black dials would have been perfect. But right now there are no black dials available for the Boxster S, funny.

And another funny thing: the stitching on the handbrake lever isn't available in red. Why? Again, no explenation.
The red stitching on the steering wheel is free of charge because we ordered the thicker steering wheel and it has to be done (the stitching) anyway, so the colour doesn't matter.

Black instruments for a black Boxster S would look perfect.

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

Break-in...what a scam. Take the car for a test drive at the dealer and it's rpm to the max. That break-in crap is just a cya.

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

dear jeweler....30000km is standard in europe where most of the time you are on the autobahn ,and in a clean environment ,unfortunatly in lebanon most of the time we are stuck in traffic jam in 1st and second gear ,not to mention the high amount of dust...so 10000km is recomended by porsche dealer..

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

oh and i almost forgot! you got to be a criminal to dismantle all your interior on a brand new car ,to remove the original german prezision engineering stitches and to try to replace them by a local handcrafter that is working on a 1924 singer sewing machine... think twice before you do anything.....

Depending on the type of fuel you are able to get in your area, the oil-change interval might be reduced. In the service book there is a foot-note saying that if you are in countries where leaded fuel is used, the interval is indeed reduced to 10,000km / 6000 mls.

You may feel that way, but I think most would disagree. This is one reason that I don't like buying ex-demo cars!

Re: red stitches on 987 s!

If you want machinery to look after you then you have to look after it. Running in recommendations aren't there just for fun. Ignore them at your peril and I agree I would never buy an ex-demo car for the same reason. Remember also that it is not just the engine, all the other running gear, including brakes and tyres all have to be treated with respect, not abuse.
