    Scrached 997, what to do???????

Someone scrached my car today while i was parked, luckily he didnt drive off and i caught up to the guy and got his details. As this is my first Porsche i dont know exactly which route to take. Some people are telling me since its a small scratch i should take it to a bodyshop (which i know is reliable and has fixed many ferraries and porsches which i have seen). And some people are telling me that i should go straight to porsche and let them handle it. what should i do??????
(how do i post a pic, everytime add it, it says les than 300000 bytes when the file is less than 1 meg)

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

ide take it to the shop yourself.

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

    pic

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

Can't tell much from the pic. Are you sure it won't polish out?

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

is that on a wheel arch? I cnat tell much from the pic but it looks pretty bad... you can feel it with your finger nail right? If so it probably not gonna really "polish" out, good luck with a body shop!

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

ya im sure it wont polish out, i tried plus it clear that the paint has been taken off in those parts, is it a simple problem that a good bodyshop can do or i let porsche do it (which would cost so much more time and money)?????

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

If it were my car, I would go to the dealer first. I trust my dealer and would listen to what they had to say. If not, I would go to a very good high-end body shop that I know that works on high end cars.

In the end, it comes down to who you trust the most.

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

Most of the time the dealers have a local shop do it anyway. Just make sure that they are really qualified.

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

    take it to the dealer.
P.s he did that on purpose? and what did you do with him?

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

sorry about the scratch, when I first purchased my car I recieved a small door dent and a scratch on the driver side door. I was very disappointed, as it was the only time I did not inspect the car prior to entering it. I was lucky to get the ding removed at my local dealer for a small fee and I will hopefully bring it in soon for a touch-up which my service advisor will take care of. Unless you have a good body shop lined up (that uses Porsche certified paint), I would take it to the dealer.

    good luck,
    Ray

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

As other's already said, the Dealer will just drive it to a local body shop that they outsource their work to. Porsche dealers RARELY have an in-house body & paint shop. So go with what you know. If you already know a shop that does alot of work on Porsches, I'd almost bet you that it's the same place that your local dealership sends their work to. If you go direct, you'll pay less than going through the dealer, where they'll mark-up the bill a percentage. If the scratch is on the wheel lip, a good painter can run a blend along the lip's character line, and then re-clear the panel, and you'll never know anything was done. That's a GOOD painter of course!!! I admire you for not caving in the face of the dunce who dinged your car. Did he/she have ANY explaination for their brain-dead carelessness? Or was it just another drone who thinks a car is a disposable appliance?

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

haha well i was parked in a tight road waiting for a frind, and and they guy came close i was gonna move (my engine was off) but thought it wasnt that close (any person who knew how to drive could have avoided me) so i stayed and he just kept on going.

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

69bossnine is right on the money.
99% of all auto dealers in my area do NOT have their own body/paint shops. Matter of fact I've never seen a Porsche dealer with a body shop. I know of 1 Ferrari dealer in my area that has their own shop. Most of the time they contract out the work to a local shop with a good rep. and then charge you a premium over their cost. It could wind up being the same cost if you brought the car to the body shop directly because they get a discount but most of the times going through a middle-man will cost you more for the same work. If I were you I'd find out if there is a Porsche dealer with their OWN body shop in your area. Just call them and then go see it. If not I would go directly to the place you have seen PORSCHE's and Ferrari's being repaired. Get an ESTIMATE. AND I'd ask your OWN dealer what they recommend/charge. If they tell you to bring it to them for repair and they don't have their own shop I would ask them who they use for body repair. Then make a decision.
    Good luck !

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

try SilverLady on 0208 599 4905. Did a perfect job for me recently at half the price quoted by the local OPC. Turned it around in 48 hours. Very impressed.

Re: Scrached 997, what to do???????

Bad luck mate - I know a very good body shop in SW London if you need to get some quotations.
