Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

    any engine upgrades Avoe?

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

no, no engine mods. This is a thing I would never touch. I've heard many bad stories.
I have already over 80000 km, and I don't really had any serious problem with the car. And I'm very often beating the hell out of the engine.

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

Regarding Brakes. I put the bxster S brake callipers on it. They are exactly the same as the 996 ones.

those rims are too small...18"?? Need atleast 19" or 20" IMO of course....

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

BD997 i think if it was available you would go 25 inches!!!!

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

    Dilinger,

I have ordered a 997s. Payed my 3000 uk pound deposit back in November. But i don't get to spec the car till October. BIG wait! My build slot is Feb 06, for delivery to me March 06. (At least all the early production problems will be ironed out by then!!)

I will have ordered all the bits on the car from new, rather than sticking them on later. The advantage of the wait means I am able to order the aerokit and exhaust which I had wanted. But from that point the car will not be modified.

    ...Add

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

I more or less agree with Carlos. So many modifications add up to NOTHING MEANINGFUL on a chassis dyno, and just make the car annoyingly loud, and cost a ton of money while making the car look and sound cheaper. Mods should be effective, high-quality, and serve some sort of purpose.

I'm not against aftermarket wheels, there just aren't many that I like. Too often, they're too pimpy. And the irony is that after $5-$7 grand spent, the car is actually CHEAPENED in appearance, like it belongs to a crack dealer or a stereo installer. I like my factory 19's. They're plenty big and plenty aggressive for a factory wheel, and I don't look like I'm dying to gain more attention than you already get driving a 997 around. But there are some tasteful aftermarket wheels out there. I just like my factory wheels so much, there's no point in blowing more dough.

Ground effects. One of my major pet peeves. The one modification that I rarely, if ever, can stomach. The favorite mod of kids with fartpipes, and 50-something Harley Davidson enthusiasts. Sometimes I see a design that is subtle, that really enhances the beauty and design of the car without looking like a tacked-on teenager's wet-dream rendering. But 99% of the time, I see kits that look about as silly and ridiculous as socks on a chicken. Unless it's subtle and enhances the design, ground effects are best left for IROC Camaros in trailer parks. Just my opinion of course, everybody's got their likes and dislikes...

I figure on doing some intake mods, and if Porsche comes out with a power kit for my "S", that'll happen. I would also like a more aggressive clutch. Brake mods I see as pointless, as I won't be racing competetively, and the brakes on the S are already incredible. I'll only do headers and exhaust if I can see some SIGNIFICANT gains over stock from some real people who have already done the work. I don't like being the lab rat for mods, I'll wait to see what fails and flops, and what actually works, and then cherry-pick my mods based on other's experiences. It costs alot less doing it that way!!

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

    I'm from Vienna.

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

    NICE CITY!!!

    very romantic

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

When i order my 997 S.. ill be putting one of those 2 wheels on it... I always did love a nice lip on the wheels.

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

If I'm not mistaken, the offset of the edge of the rim from the spokes can increase "bump-steer" in corners. Just FYI. A nice bright outer rim can look sharp, but you may pay a performance price on a car for which steering is a hallmark. Somebody else on here may be able to elaborate further??

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

i luv the stock carrera S wheels why dont you leave with them a little?

I guess you do it also to differentiate your car, otherwise i would prefer carrera S

Well, if it did truely hurt the handling/performance of the car, it would weigh heavily on my deciesion about getting those wheels. Anyone if if that "lip" truely does hurt ur all around performance?

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

Any chassis engineers in the house??

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

why you wanna cut your chassis 69' ? ;!

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

Mods , only for the engine, and only if it's the turbo engine

    With regard to wheels..

People regularly forget that the big wheels on a car are frequently pushed onto a car by marketing men, rather than by the design and engineering men.

Take the M3 for example, it is generally agreed that 18" wheels are a better option for actually driving the car than 19"s.

I agree wholeheartedly. There's no performance difference and the ride is harsher. At 19 inches tires start to look like rubberbands stretched around a huge hubcap. Hitting a pothole can mean a $1000-1500 replacement bill. Luckily the 997S wheels are 27 inches in diameter so the sidewall is the same width as an M3 with 18s. 19 inchers on the M3 are the dumbest thing I ever saw; except botox laden lips and D cup fake breasts on women.

yea im interested in the topic

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

I used to have an M3 and i know what yoy mean.
With 18'' car is more progressive and with excellent ride quality. But 19'' looks awesome. I think stock BMW M rims are among the best designed in the market, much better than Porsches (but i love GT3's MK2).

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

with the HRE wheels im more interested in their look and how they go with the car..than gaining performance from them, i personally dunno which i would get 18" or 19"...I like the porsche rims that you can get, but i think rims can make or break any car.. even a 997(tho it would take 1 damn ugly rim to break a 997). Does anyone know anything about the "lip" of the wheel having a factor on performance/handling?

I am also interested in this theory? Has anyone some facts.
Don't the GT3 cup have wheels with an outer rim?

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

Zoltan, i believe you say you like GT3 wheels;)

That why you chose very similar wheels to your car ;! (philosophywise)

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

I just read an article in Flat 6 magazine about a new 996 GT2 RUF. They put 18'' Fikse wheels and gained 5kg on each front wheel and 6 kg on each back wheel !!!! That's something to think about....stock or modder?

Re: Are you a Stock Guy or a Modder?

I don't trust all the mod wheel manufacturers, who don't publish how much the wheels weigh.
