Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

...and of course a little bit for myself.
My wife's SLK 32 AMG lease runs out and she needs a car.
She didn't want a Boxster because she hates soft tops but I think I was able to convince her to get a black/black Boxster S, so the soft top doesn't really show off.
The SLK 55 AMG (her first choice) would have been nice, especially since the engine is absolutely marvelous but I'm gonna drive this car too when she uses the Cayenne for the kids and I rather prefer driving a 280 HP Boxster than a 360 HP SLK 55 AMG.
We're still a little bit undecided on the options but some of the options will be Tiptronic (my wife hates driving stick too... ), PASM and of course the sport chrono package for daddy (me).
We're also thinkin about a bi-colour (two-tone) interior leather, red stitching, red seatbelts, sport seats, heated seats, xenon frontlights, cd changer. Just the 18'' wheels, no 19'' wheels because of the size of the calipers and the fact that the rear tire size is the same.

Delivery of the car should be around june, I may pick it up at the factory if I have some spare time. If I pick it up at the factory, I'll post a short review and maybe I'm able to shoot some nice pictures, especially of the Cayman.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

Three down and two more to go RC. When are the orders for the Cayman and CGT?

    Nice choice.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

noooo....come on tiptronic on a boxster.......pick up slk if you want a car with auto-transmission...18 wheels could be the right choice

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

And I thought you didnt care for Boxsters RC. I guess you bite the Boxster Bugg too.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

My girlfriend wasn't to keen on the stick too, but once she got used to it no probs anymore. Let her drive your 997 for a couple of days... risk is she will not give it back

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

i would be heavily tempted by the SLK in your situation

but theres nothing like having 3 porsches

    just like the porsche website:

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

So - you have gone against the wishes of She Who Must Be Obeyed. You are a braver man than me.

    Congratulations my friend!
Not that I have to teach you anything regarding Porsches or cars in general, but here are my thoughts re your options:
Tiptronic, good choice as you already have your 997S Road Racer
PASM and sport chrono, well of course, elementary really.
Bi-colour int would be great, but maybe a tadd to much with red stiching.
With red stiching and red seat belts, I would stick to black interior, just my 2 cent.
Is red stiching an Exclusive option? Make sure it doesn't lengthen the delivery time.
Sport seats, yes, adaptative, not crucial, as it is a tiptro, you don't need the sportiest seats.
Heated, Xenon, CD changer, all yes.
    How about Bose and Navigation?
Now the biggest issue IMO, the wheels size.
Funny you mentionned it bc I've always thought that now that both models are available in 19in, it's the only thing that bugs me: How little the brake disks look! And that's for the 997S, so imagine for a Boxster S!
So going for 18in makes sense, but then you have another problem, the wheel arches will look big, and that's not very pretty.
    Solution, get the PCCB!
Seriously, 18in is fine, especially since it'll be a black car, the wheel arches won't show that much.
But coming back to the look of the disk on 19in wheels, it really shows when you go for 19in classic, not so much with sport design and Carrera S standard wheels as the rims are fuller in design.
    Just a detail though.
    Congrats!

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

First off the disclaimer: I don't have the 987 S in my hands yet, but it's been ordered and naturally I can't wait until the delivery date. I'm currently driving an Audi TT roadster.

I'd lean towards electronic/power seats with memory function, especially if you are changing drivers. Personally I skipped the sports seats but included the memory function as I'm not fond of fiddling with mirrors and seat controls for 5 minutes before starting up.

BOSE surround sound system. I listened to the standard and even the somewhat enhanced sound options and they're pitiful (that from a woman who hasn't felt the need for upgraded sound systems when buying anything from a Honda Civic to an Audi TT quattro). Without the full BOSE system, you get NO rear speakers, only front speakers. It sounds downright aweful. I combined the BOSE system with the wind shield.

Xenon, heated seats, PASM: Good choices, can't go wrong with that.

    Two tone: Should look good.

Red stitches/belt: That's where the spirits part. Forgive me but that adds a pimp touch to an otherwise very elegant car. Limiting the colors to black or grey or any combination would definitely be my preference.

Automatic: Not normally my first choice for a sports car but if you or your wife encounter a lot of stop and go traffic it starts to look really attractive.

    Enjoy!

I was going to say the say thing

So you finnaly managed to convince her into the Boxster inspite of the soft-top! congrats!
When you get it, you have to line up the Cayenne, 997S and the Boxster and take a picture

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

Soft tops are more dangerous for women.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

    Congratulations !

Your neighbors will stop being envious/jealous of you because with three Porsches they will think either you are
on the factory payroll or a Porsche relative.

See if you can persuade your factory kontacts to fit a
limited slip diff as a favor.

You may want to rethink your purchase. As you know there is no space behind the seats in a Boxster and that is a huge inconvienence particularly for a woman. Check with her. It does matter.

    She wants a Roadster.
No space behind the seats of an SLK either.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

Guys, thanks for your thoughts and congrats.
And yes, Nick, my wife definetely wants a roadster again after her SLK 32 AMG. She just needs space for her emergency bag (she's a doctor) and the Boxster has enough room for that.

The reason why she (we?) went for a Boxster is simple: she doesn't care about power and handling but I do. And as I have to drive her car when she drives the Cayenne with the kids, the Boxster was the only logical choice.
I always liked the Boxster, this is no secret. I just wouldn't buy one for me because there is not enough power, I need the rear seats and I love the unbeatable traction of the 911, not to forget about the 20 mm sport chassis with limited slip differential.
Now some people would probably ask: why not sharing a 997 Cab with my wife? Well, the reason why we don't do that is simple: I want to drive stick on my "fun" car and I like it firm, stiff and very very sporty. My wife loves comfort and a automatic transmission, she couldn't care less about power.

I think the Boxster S is a perfect choice to satisfy both of us and with PASM and chrono sport, she can have her comfort and I can have my sportiness. Of course the Tiptronic isn't something I really want but a SLK 55 AMG would have an automatic tranny too, so it doesn't matter.

And finally, my dealer made us an offer we really can't refuse.

I just hope that the june delivery can be done but it shouldn't be a problem since we don't want to order any special Exclusive options.

Yes, three Porsche are nice but two of them are run on the businesses (hers and mine), so they really don't eat up too many financial resources.

What about the 997? Are you selling it?

Nope. The 997 Carrera S is my fun car, I keep it of course but I can't drive with it to my business. My customers would turn their back on me. Some of them already made comments about the Cayenne and they think it is a V6. The Boxster is still considered a "cheap" entry-level Porsche among people who don't have a clue about cars, two friends who own one never had problems with customer comments. My wife also takes black, this makes the Boxster even less spectacular.

Re: Getting a Boxster S for my wife...

    Great decision RC
My wife absolutely loves her Boxster S
She drives twice as much since we traded her Cayenne.

You must be scoring a lot of points lately
Holiday and a new Boxster S be aware she not going to get used to it.

Hum...your 997S is not a daily car....how about replacing it with F430 for fun?

*snickers* It's all a question of training. I've been weaning myself off the need for a big trunk and a rear seat by means of a couple of Audi TTs. Low and behold, I'm happily living without the storage space as long as I can fit my cosmetic pouch, my sunglasses, a CD or two and an energy drink.

Enjoy the boxster! I just came back from a nearby dealership where I cancelled my original order and bought a demo Boxster S because I could not wait until June for delivery.
