thanks mike. here is something weird: today i slammed the engine lid shut three times with some force and....the oil warning lamp went away. then i did some 15 km and it didn't come back...!!!!!!!!! hmmmm......

ps: the lid was also securely closed before but i think there is some lid sensor issue...

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I doubt that there's any interface between the engine lid sensor and the oil level gauge.
I'd be more inclined to think that, if there is really a connection between slamming the lid and the warning light going off, that the warning light might might be caused by a poor oil-level sensor electrical connection and the shock of the engine lid being slammed might have improved that connection.
Pure speculation on my part, but ...........Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Actually there is a weird feature in the GT3/RS where the oil level gauge is reset when the engine cover is opened/closed.  I think because there is really no other reason to open that lid (nothing to see here, move along...), the system checks whether you just added oil.

exactly, so there is a connection between slamming the lid shut and the oil measurement system.  well, i shall drive more tomorrow and see. for now the warning  light is square off while it was on until i slammed the lid. let me just add that restarts did not help.

Regarding the lid. Guys with the 991GT3 were stating something about the lid around 2 year ago. I can't recall what they exactly was saying. Something with regard to lid having to be shut to get an accurate reading,, maybe Smiley..

My 991 GT3 has 9000km and she has sucked around 0.75 of a litre of Mobil, sound low doesn't it. I only add 0.125 at a time. The gauge is way too sensitive. Porsche really should have sorted this before the release of the RS, they had ample time.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

very much against my usual patterns i forgive PAG many sins when it comes to the RS. when i drive the car i could not care less about the info-entertainment, that it looks like a squashed beetle from the outside, the fiddly control knobs and buttons, the gigantic and ugly (and in my view useless) central shifter, the absence of parking sensors and cameras etc. all that does not matter to me at all, the car is that good. well, maybe a soft setting for the dampers like in the ferraris would be nice but other than that the car is simply brilliant. i don't know of course but maybe the 458 speciale would have been equally brilliant to drive (or better? i have no long term direct comparison) but i have no regrets about the RS.

Well, you live and learn!  Smiley

Doesn't the 991 have a graduated oil level gauge, as its predecessors did?  Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

interesting discussion as my lamp on the GT3 also came on yesterday (min the computer said)  after 5000 km and I filled 0.4 liter. Have to check today what it sais. I think 0.4 for 5000 km spirited driving is fine - for me....

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Be careful not to over fill it by putting 0.4 in. I always add the oil after a drive, turn engine off, add 0.125 of mobil, shut lid, turn engine on, let it idle for a few mins, and then check how many bars you have showing on the display.

Its so sensitive to the amount you add..

Throt has now confirmed that the 991 still has a graduated oil level display, as earlier 911s had.

What did your display show when oil level warning light came on?

it was on min, after the 'correct' checking procedure. i believe my real oil usage is now (after 4300 km) about 0.25 to 0.5 liter/1000km. the reason for the recurrent oil level warning from three days ago was certainly connected to the lid.

btw, here is the official answer from PAG (sorry guys, in german) after my PZ raised a ticket:

well, i did nor top up the engine oil in my F458 for 28K km....

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

    with thanks to Google Translate

Technical Information on the GT3 ( 991 ) Motor " oil consumption can be up to 0.8 L / 100km under normal conditions ( without racing and race track operation ) . It should be noted that new vehicles , especially the GT3 ( RS ) , within the first 10000 km ( 6,200 mls ) or in the warm-up phase of the engine more oil consuming than vehicles with worn-in motors , as the components " rub " ( itself in modern engines produced ) . After 10000 km ( 6,200 mls ) oil consumption should level off at a lower level .

For the 997 generation the drivers' manual contained the proviso that oil consumption could go up to 1.5l/1000km before it was considered to be abnormally high.  I'm surprised that the acceptable level of oil consumption for the 991 GT3RS has been upped by a factor of over 5
