    Boxster Carrera S 19''s

May have been covered elswhere before, so sorry if it has.

My question revolves round the quality of the ride on the Carrera S 19''s on a Boxster sans PASM.

ANy of the March '05 deliverys care to comment on their first impressions if they have this spec??

The 986 S with the (best ever?) Carrera 18's had 225/40 ZR 18 on front and 225/35 ZR 18 on the back and obviously no PASM. I found the ride on that car to be superb. The new Carrera S wheels have 235/35 (F) and 265/35 (R) respectively. I have no desire for PASM in my spec, but would like the 19's as they fill the arches better. I do like the Boxster S wheel, but can't help but think it looks a bit small. (Can't believe I am refering to 18''s as 'small'.) They look great from some angles and not so great from others. For example on the Carmon red thread, they look great (not so sure about the colour tho). The 19''s look HUGE, no matter which way you look at them, but I don't like the design as much as the double spoke Box S 18''s.

    Any help is appreciated.

By they way, there is a lot of chat on the 'other' forum about the Sports steering wheel (Pounds142) not actually being leather. I doubt Porsche are pulling a fast one, but is the quality of the item that bad??

Again, any folk who specced the cheaper sports wheel option care to share their thoughts?

oh and as a pointer, the black leather with sport seats and wheel looks absolutely fantastic.

    Cheers

    and the 19''s

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

    AAAAND the fantastic black interior

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

I've got the cheaper (Pounds142) sports steering wheel and it is just fine. The rim is grained leather rather than smooth leather. (Same as the standard wheel). It is definitely not worth Pounds432 for the same wheel with smooth leather rim and leather airbag cover, IMO. Can't comment on the 19" ride quality as I've not driven one without PASM.

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Cheers, I doubted the guff on the other webiste...lots of perople ringing Porsche GB for the 'facts'. I guess that wheel will do me nicely.

Close up of rim on my car.

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

The ride on 19s is on the hard side...but thats fine for me.....the suspension is well tuned so doesn't crash.

The Pounds142 sports steering wheel IS leather despite what those muppets on the other forum say..I read it....two weeks of "is it" vs "isn't it"!!!

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Thanks for putting the sports wheel issue to rest. Newboxster, your Box dosen't have PASM then? If not, its good to hear that it drives well. At the end of the day, hard is fine. Its a sports car after all.

    Cheers

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Haven drive my Boxster S, on 19" w/o PASM, and my Mini Cooper Conv, 17" with runflats w/o sport suspension, back to back today got to say the Boxster is by far the smoother ride - surprised me too. Knew the Boxster was good in isolation....

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

I have the Carrera S 19" wheels on a 987 S without PASM (delivery 2/22). Although I have put only 100 miles on the car due to recent unabated lousy weather in New Jersey, so far I think the ride is what you would expect: firm but not harsh - a sports car ride. And our roads are lousy, especially this time of year, "Pothole" month. I will say that the car rides way better than my previous '97 911 C4S or my wife's current BMW Z4 3.0 with Sport package and 18" run flats. Hope this helps. In any event, I always buy the biggest OEM wheels available on a new car, both for looks and the current wheel trend of "bigger is better". It probably will help resale value, too.

Same for me. I've got the MCS with Sports Suspension and runflats and found the 987 with the 18" wheels a nice change. Very good feedback.

With regard to the wheels, I wouldnt be too sure of the 19" on the 987 2.7 but maybe with the extra power on the S.

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Am I the only person who prefers the look of the 18" wheels? I think it stems from my classic car driving days. I like to see a bit more rubber.

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Girlracer, you are not alone. I prefer the design of the 18's, but feel the 19's just fill the arches better. Still, I agree with an earlier post that perhaps the 19's are for the 'S' and should prob stick with the 18's with the slightly smaller brakes....... I can't even decide on colour, let alone wheels anyway.......

    Cheers

Wahay! Who needs the extra inch anyway?

    Re: Boxster Carrera S 19''s

Further to last, if the Carrera S wheel is available for the Boxster, why can't Porsche make the 18'' Carrera 5 spoke avail for the Boxster to give a couple of choices for 18'' wheels?? I think this wheel would suit the Boxster really well.
