    Mobil 1 Oil - OW40

    I went to autozone to buy Mobil 1 Oil (OW-40) and they said as far as they know it has been discontinued. It is likely that autozone may have decided to discontinue due to low volume sales but have you all heard anything about mobil discontinuing this brand? Is there another recommended oil for the 997S?

    From page 181 of the Owners Manual:

    Engine Oil Recommendation
    Recommended oil viscosity ranges dependent on ambient temperatures
    f Use only engine oils approved by Porsche.
    If in doubt ask your authorized Porsche dealer for Porsche tested and approved all-season oils.
    Ambient temperature
    seasonal
    SAE Viscosity Range
    engine oils
    generally above -13*F/-25*C SAE 0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50
    approved by Porsche
    generally below -13*F/-25*C SAE 0W-40 approved by Porsche

    Whichever oil you use, make sure it's Mobil.
    Mobil rocks, nothing is better.

    As far as I know the dealership is the one place you can buy exactly what is recommended. If you go to the Mobil 1 web site it will show you distributors but I'm not sure if you can buy directly from them. The product is not discontinued and to my knowledge you can't buy it just anywhere. If anyone knows differently please let us know.

    It is available from AutoZone. Some stores my have it in stock, or they can order it for you. It is also available for on-line ordering from Autozone.com.

    I just buy it from the P-dealer since no one in my area seems to carry it in stock.

    I ordered Mobil 1 0W-40 from Autobarb today for $5.99/quart. Shipping to California for 12 quarts is $6.95, while this is more than the price shown on AutoZone's website, when I tried ordering it, they said it was not available. I went to my local AutoZone store where I had bought 3 quarts a few months ago. The manager told me that they, AutoZone, no longer carry Mobil 1 in 0W-40. They sent back what they had to their warehouse.

    Can anyone come in at $5.49/qt?! Every $1 saved helps.

    So far I have used 1qt after 1100miles since Jan 22nd. I got another 4 just in case. I need to decide when I have the oil changed.

    Walmart in Maryland sells it. My Porsche dealer sells Pensoil. I didn't want that.

    was at wal mart today and picked a bunch of 5/40 up at $4.8X/qt. at 1 qt/1k miles with a 20k service interval, the oil will be changed 2 1/2 times on our cayenne turbo before it goes to the dealer at 20k for the oil filter change.

    I don't know if Mobil is discontinuing the 0W40, but if they are, maybe it is because they now have introduced their new line....oil for 5000, 10,000, and 15,000 mile intervals. (not positive about the exact intervals, except for the 15k)

    $4.98/qt. at Advance Auto here in Upstate NY. (0w40 "European Car Formula").

    What about Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic or Valvoline full synthetic? They both carry 5w-40 Euro?

    Me too!! I went to my dealer to get a pack of oil, but they don't sell it. They refused to believe that a 2 day old car would need a top up initially (done 800+km though), but checked and put in 600ml for free.

    So when are we supposed to change oil? 30,000kms or 2 years seem to be odd. That's what I have found in the manual...

    my dealer said that new 997's come not full of oil but just in the middle,and he sold me one litre.
    Not a word about giving one for free in Greece.The guys here want to make profit out of anything

    Guys - older thread I know, but I am getting a little low on oil for the first time in my 997 and I wanted to check whether Mobil 1 OW-40 is still the best oil to get?

    According to Mobil's website this oil is for turbo diesels!

    I can't find 0W-40 for non-turbo-diesel engines on the Mobil site.

    I know the Porsche Guide says: SAE 0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50

    Is there a preference here? 0W4-40 > 5W-40 > 5W-50 ???

    Should I just take my 997 to the nearest Dealership and just get them to fill it up for me?
