    Mitsubishi evo 9 ring time 8:11

    I found that number quite interesting, especially considering the price and hp numbers of the evo. Didn't the new M5 only do an 8:13? It's ugly, it has no class, but is there a better deal out there? The Subaru STI spec C already did an 8:06 but that was a sripped down special.

    That's faster than a 2004 996C2! I have a friend with one and they are really quick on the track and best of all, they have fabulous steering feel and quickness. They are also easily modded for well over 400hp...

    Great daily driver, except that Mits has lousy customer service and they are almost bankrupt...

    I am not too sure about the official hp figures. They still stick to Japan's gentlemen agreement to sell no car with more than 280 hp.
    For example the Skyline R-34 is supposed to have plenty more in std. form already!

    I'd say you could even go faster than 8:11 if I consider his way too ambitious driving in the first couple corners. I am not too sure about the tires which might be similiar to Cup-tires (just a guess). Anyways it is pretty impressive!

    Keith - I think they weigh less than a C2 (3,100 lbs IIRC) and have a pretty wicked torque curve (Variable Valve timing and new turbocharger for the IX). I also think true power is higher than stated...

    Tires are very aggressive - near DOT-R softness...

    I heards Evo 8s have constantly more power then published when measured. Aroud 320~340hps. 280 is Japanese Governments restriction on Japanese manufacturers to advertise the maximum power of their vehicles.

    Well, the Gentlemen's agreement between Japanese manufacturers of the 280HP limit has been eliminated, so we will start to see their real HP ratings being published, as in EVO VIII MR 400. Before the RoW EVO had 280HP but people that dinoed it claimed in excess of 300HP easy.

    Very true, It's a taxation-thing AFAIK.
    Notice how many fast cars who all have 276 BHP?
    Ranging from the legendary Skyline to the Subaru Imprezas, Beemers etc etc.
    They all exceed 276 BHP, but 276 is the taxation limit.
