    Re: 997 GT3

Center rear exhaust a la Boxster

    Re: 997 GT3

    Thank's Darius
    Ciao GOAT!:P

    Re: 997 GT3

That center rear exhaust is a great idea, like the cup cars!!!.
What I don't like is the rear spoiler, its like the mk1gt3, don't like it at all!!!It should be similar to the wing of the mk2gt3996.

    Re: 997 GT3

    Thanks Darius .

    Re: 997 GT3

hold on Tuned version of the 3.8 carrera S engine?? The GT3 would/should have the "gt1 based" engine shouldn't it? I hate it when they speak without having real info...

The central exhaust is not my cup of tea... in the boxster it looks perfect but not for a gt3 IMO. Sure I'd get used to it and finally love it but... And it will take long to get used to that aerokit. I like the resemblance with the Mk1 wing but looks weird.

    Re: 997 GT3

The top one looks like the C4 w/ aerokit we have seen, it has red brakes and rides higher. The botom one has PCCB's, rides lower, and specially centre exhaust like we have seem on other 997GT3 spy pics and in the 997GT3Cup.
I like the centre exhuats on the GT3 version very much, not becuase the look good (not to me)but becuase there won't be as many carrera-aerokit with fake badges walking around

BTW, Thanks a lot Darius for posting!

    Re: 997 GT3

    WOW!!!

Watta Super Pics from a Super Goat! Beye!

    Re: 997 GT3

They are testing in the snow? Carrera 4, maybe the story is true, the photographer of the last pictures we had told us it was a 4 wheel drive car. Now they're testing it in snow. Maybe it is just a C4 or C4s with an aerokit, but then again...the exhaust is in the middle, which makes you think it is a GT3..

Porsche just knows how to confuse people.....

    Re: 997 GT3

wild speed... nowhere is stated that these pics were the same car, and at the same time... actually, different plates. So, the first pic could be a C4 or C4S, and the second a GT3...

If they use the 3.8L wet sump, many enthusiats (including myself) would be furious. But, PAG would save ALOT of $$$. That scares me, but I'm going to hope that they don't dilute the GT3...

They can't. Unlike the carreras, the GT3 is used in racing so it HAS to have a dry sump.
The journalists are just passing on and on the rumor that the engine is derived from the carerra. I don't know who started it but just becasue its a 3.8l doesn't mean its from the 997S engine, and just because it may start with the M97 designation doens't mean its from the 997S either. The 996GT3 is M96 and so are all the other 996 engines, including the carrera. M97 is just the family designation.
The Turbo maybe, but the GT3 has to have a dry sump more that any other model.

    Official website gets it WRONG!

Le système de lubrification à carter sec permet une lubrification fiable, même en conduite sportive, et assume des fonctions de refroidissement complémentaires.

This quote is taken from the French OFFICIAL website of Porsche!
And I checked the British one which is right, they do not say the 997 engine has dry sump lubrication, unlike that french quote!
Who do I contact at Porsche AG to let them know their French IT department is crap!
Still can't believe it! On the OFFICIAL website!

Re: Official website gets it WRONG!

à carter sec... they are talking about the 997 carreras?

Fanch - Porsche calls their wet sump an integrated dry sump (right on the window sticker), but it's just marketing BS. This is probably where the French info came from...

the GT3 is used in club sport, but will it really be the base model for the supercup 997? and is it the homologation model for the FIA GT and ALMS series? the GT3 RSR is quite new and was homolgated by the (996) GT3 RS.

i've heard this rumour that the 997 GT3's engine will be a tuned version of the 997 carrera engine way too often. there must be some thruth about it.

my guess #1: the GT3 will get the carrera engine (maybe they planned an offspring with dry sump?). should be more cost-effective in the long term than sticking to the 964 engine for turbo, GT2 and GT3.

my guess #2: for FIA/ALMS homologation they will bring out some super-GT3, maybe again called RS, with a totally different engine -- probably based on the current 964 crankcase again

BTW: thank you for sharing this article SuperDarius

    Re: 997 GT3

Different wings too. IMHO I like the center exhaust.

    Re: 997 GT3

the wings are the same, only one has black camo tape on it.

You have a point, but no track oriented Porsche version, and a GT3 is that, can have a wet sump, I don't believe Porsche would do that, if the engine its more expensive then they will increase the price but not do the oppposite and use a wet sump, its more harm than anything. The GT3 Porsche's track car flagship, its used many times with R-compund tires, its the basis for many extreme tunner and private mods, etc. Imagine what the press would say is Porsche's most radical driver's car designed for the track has a wet sump, they'll be the laughing stock. And a GT3RS version with dry sump will not solve it, since the RS is a very limited version and not even homologised for the US

    Re: 997 GT3

Carlos, what you say makes complete sense to me, I just hope it makes sense to Porsche.

    Re: 997 GT3

Hey guys.. i have another picture of the 997 GT3 also showing its middle exhaust.. i kinda like it..

    Re: 997 GT3

whats with trapezoidal intakes and german performance cars?

ie. ///m ///amg and now Porsche...?

    Re: 997 GT3

    Here;s a pic i altered a little its from autobild.de

    Re: 997 GT3

True, I don't know, maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that Porsche would not do such a thing
