Re: Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

    Thanks Darren

Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

I went to see Lee the service manager today, and he said that he would have to ask around to find out why the plastic and paint is melting, and then they would get back to me. I told him to give Tom Drabers my best.

I still haven't figured out how to post some pictures, but I sent one to Carlos from Spain's E-mail, and I'll send anyone through E-mail the pic, if they want to see it.

I betcha Carlos has an answer before they do.

It would be kind of funny if the Porsche caught itself on fire. It hasn't done that yet, but there is always tomorrow.

Got 'em. I have no clue what could cause that, and only on one side
The good thing it that regardless the cause, it seems like a easy fix, new bumper and maybe new exhaust under warranty and good as new. Such a freaky thing is not likely to happen again.

The reason you could not post them was because they were 2MB each. I reduced the size of the exhaust one in order to post it (they have to be smaller than 300KB ):

Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

I got word from the dealer yesterday, and it seems like they are going to give me a new car. Well, sort of, in about a week a new black car will go to the dealer, they are going to remove the rear section off of that car, and put it on mine. They believe that the heat shield panel may be out of place. I went under the car this morning, to compare the passenger heat shield with the driver's side, and they appear to be identical, with no anomalies between them. I believe that there may be something else, but I just don't know.

While I was under the car, I did notice that there is an oil leak that stems from where the flat under shield meets a cross brace by the transmission area. It is not trans fluid, and I'm too fat to slide under to see where the leak is coming from. Any ideas from those with knowledge, what it could be?

Wow, a new navigation/radio unit, a new engine, and a new rear clip. A new car; just one part at a time.

    jboyko,

The oil leak issue is a serious one make sure that it's not the RMS. Definitely have it checked hopefully is nothing major but if it's RMS let's take care of it ASAP.

    Good luck.

Re: Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

A good warning to us all to watch out for the exhaust and bumper paint issue - probably worthwhile protecing that area of paint with regular coats of wax.

Good luck jboyko with the repairs.

Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

I took Ron's advice, (Thanks Ron) and called my dealer 3 times today (Those guys are terrible) to have them add a few quarts of oil and check to see where the oil leak is coming from. Since my dealer hadn't returned any of my calls, I called Josh at Ray Catena (The guys that put in my new engine 2 months ago). They are going to look at it, the first thing tomorrow morning (Thanks Josh).

I have a feeling that this book may be coming to an end. I've owned some pretty nice cars, and a few hooptys over the last 20 years, but I think this is the one that has finally got me.

Re: Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

what do you mean jboyko that it got you?

    You like it or not?

    Godd luck with your repairs

Oh fiddle-dee-dee! The tail pipe is melting the paint.

Based on my observation of the heat shields, both tail pipes, and the same distance between the plastic and the pipes, I believe that a swap of the tail clip from someone's new car, will not solve the problem if it is an engine issue. It's just a guess on my part, but the dealer did no more than a 30 second visual inspection in the parking lot. They didn't even look at the heat shield area. I think that they are guessing too.

Would it be too conservative to think that 10% of the vehicle's cost is built in for warranty problems? My college ecomomics Professor said on the first day of class, In business you need to weigh the financial benefits of doing somthing legaly verse doing it illegally. I guess that is more cost effective for Porsche to replace parts for 3 years, than properly design, and engineer them.

When it rains, it pours. This seems a case of concentrated negative energy where everything goes wrong - a singularity in space and time
