    XC2 Sports Shifter

Placed my order for my 997s cab. Ordered with Sports Chrono Plus (must have).

Question is.... Sports Shifter or not? Just a gimmick.. or will the standard shift effect my golf swing? Wait... wont be able to fit my clubs in the car anyway

What do you think? pro's or con's.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

I have put two sets of clubs in the back of my S!!!

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

    Thanks Ron, great photo.

Still confused though!!!! I guess the car will be slightly faster with shorter shifts, but will it make such a big difference? Is it worth the $700 upgrade?

Cant believe you spend $90K+ on a car and things like floor mats and shifters arent standard.

    Re:Sports Shifter

    Correction
The Option code is: XCZ Sport Shifter
    Not XC2

Ordered it on my "S" that should arrive in mid Feb

    Re:Sports Shifter

    Isn't XCZ thicker steering wheel?

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

It was either RC or someone elase that had it installed after market, I'm not sure if they were pleased with it or they said it didn't make much of a difference in gear throws . I searched for that particular post but can't find it.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

When the throws get really short, sometimes you lose "feel" and effort increases. I think the 997 gearbox is about right as it is...

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

I drove a new 997 with short shift around the block before ordering my car. There is definitely more resistance changing gear but this should improve with mileage but apparently there will always be some resistance when cold. OTOH the throws are noticeably shorter though I don't think it will make the car noticeably faster, just feels better. FWIW IMO The steering wheel and gear shift are the controls you touch most so it's important to be happy with them! ( I went with the standard shift )

    Leong

I have it and love it

I drove the standard shift, ordered the sport shifter and love it.

    Nope
    XPA Thicker Steering Wheel-Leather

    Re:Sports Shifter

    I'm losing my touch

    Re:Sports Shifter

pay $750 now or much more later if you decide to install it later.

    Re:Sports Shifter

I've had my 997S with the sports shifter since November and absolutely love it. After 2400 miles, the resistance has loosened up some. There is still more resistance when shifting to 1st gear when it is cold. This improves after 3 or 4 miles of driving. The milliseconds saved with shorter throws likely make no significant change in lap times or 0-60 times but the car feels faster with the snick-snick short shifter. This is the best gearbox ever in a Porsche and after having the sports shifter I don't think I could go back.

Somebody had said earlier, either here or on F6 that the factory sports shifter was the same as the B&M part which is much cheaper and can be easily installed.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

I tested a 987 S with the short shifter (will be same for 997)and I loved it. It is hard, especially when cold, but is worthy, very fast and precise. When I order my new car I will for sure get this option.

I felt the exact same thing as you Grant, thats why I took the short shifter out of my option list after I tried the stock one. I figured that since its an retrofit anyway, I can always get it later on if change my mind, but I felt it was about right the way it was as well, at least for my taste.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

I just had the Porsche Sport (short) Shifter installed in my 997S today by the dealer. I bought the SSK P/N 997 424 983 00 from Sunset Imports in Beaverton, OR, for $419.95 plus shipping. Cost to install was $172.50. I have not yet driven it when engine is cold, but with th engine warmed up, the shifts are much more positive than with stock shifter. With the engine warmed up, the shifts are no harder than the stock shifter. Very smooth. I am very happy with the result.

On my car with the stock shifter, the shifts were a bit hard into 1st & from 1st to 2nd, when the engine was cold. Once the oil temp got to normal, these shifts became easier.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

Anyone know what the total cost is for the dealer to fit a porsche sport shifter? I have a 997S and with standard shifter and its fine, curious as to what the cost will be post-factory.

    Re: XC2 Sports Shifter

    See above post.
