200mph Supra Blasts Back

"200mph Supra Blasts Back

The car in front - in front of Porsche and Ferrari, that is - could soon be a Toyota. The Japanese firm launched this sensational new coupé at the Detroit Motor Show under its luxury Lexus brand.

A spiritual successor to the much-loved Supra, the new machine is set to hit the road in 2007. Sources in Japan say it will be powered by a 500bhp V10 engine, cost more than Pounds60,000 and offer a top speed of over 200mph.

Inspired by the firm's F1 technology, the car - badged LF-A at the US expo - will be the last word in hi-tech gadgetry. A sequential gearbox is also planned, as are race suspension, carbon brakes and adjustable aerodynamics. As you can see, the concept has no wing mirrors, instead using TV cameras and small screens to broadcast a view of what's happening behind."

nice idea, but those looks! and, i wonder if this will be toyota's first street car ever that makes a driving connection with the driver.

The first thing I though is that I hope those looks are becuase its a concept still and if it goes to production they will tone it down a bit.
Given Toyota's reliability and build quality, racing participation and the back-up of being the world's number one maker now, they have the potential building something interesting, wether they do is another matter

Since i first saw it a few weeks back, the looks have really grown on me. I hope that it retains this edginess in the production version. Toyota could surely benefit from a bit of edge.

Sounds like they are trying to move upmarket by showing it under the Lexus name and including a bunch of gizmos and electronics as part of the exercise. It may be intended to be as much of a halo car as a high performance sports car. For example, the interior has a look of a piece of audiophile equipment, but the seats look race inspired at the same time. The former kind of qualities may dominate the car and remove some of its focus.

The production version will definitely be very different, judging by a lot of the details. I bet they have some very interesting ideas, but I hope they don't take it too far.

I'm very disappointed with Japanese car makers lately.
Where are real sports cars from these manufacturers?
The Z350 was a nice beginning but where are some bad kick a.. sports racers at attractive prices?

It is just about time for some nice and mean Nippon products.

I'm not a fan of Audi but the Le Mans looks very very good, impressive I would say... pitty its provably going to be another still-born-concept ala Nuvolari created for publicity that never sees the streets.

while i'd be the first to say lexus is a german copy cat exterior designwise (while kicking german butt on build quality, reliability and servicing), i'm not sure i see the audi genes in that car. a certain amount of the design is form following function. imo, it has more italian (i dare say 360 even) influence than it does with that audi. it also has some lambo too, but then again that's audi anyway.

I'm referencing the rear end treatment only, not the overall styling. The huge vertical air exits are from the Le Mans Quattro concept car. And the gattling gun exhaust is from the weird Zonda . .... The more I think about it, the more I see the thin horiz decktop rear lamp clusters from several recent Audi show cars ...

It's " less is more " Bauhaus interior has been BMW 's dircection for a few years
