    Black 997 Turbo

    Heh

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

Now, jokes aside, I have a strong feeling that the 997TT will have a lot of features borrowed the 959..Both mechanical and aesthetic.

    What do you guys think?

I hope not. That 959 pic is as dated to me today as gazing at similar period pics of a 944 or 928 . About as current as Culture Club or Cindy Lauper .

time after time , the designer's at porsche will always have a strong design language that they must adhere to, which will always prevent anything too radical.

for those types of designs, they will have to create new lines, however, the boxster seems to be taking on a life of its own.

    Dear MKW,
I beg to differ. I still believe that 959 is the best looking Porsche ever

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

I hope they put as many mechanical parts they can-
If they put that electronic differential and more
electro junk that would seriously change my mind
    about purchasing one

well, RC once said that the back has 959 influence.
And those headlight rings are back, the 997 has them

Oh, and Kylie Minogue did a very successful comeback

I was a 911 owner even when the 959 came out. I thought it was ugly then ( esp that front 3/4 platypus view like on the above pic ) and the passage of time has not changed my opinion. Maybe that's why I have difficulty with the 997 front end. A 959 / F40 basket handle rear spoiler would look really bad, as that's been long appropriated as the poster boy look for the "ricer nation".
    Again, just my opinion.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

You have to see the 959 in person LIVE to be able to make a judgement. When I saw it on pictures, I didn't like it. But when I saw a 959 for the first time at Werk 1 in Zuffenhausen, I was impressed. And I'm even more impressed when I compare the performance figures and technical details of this car to super sports cars nowadays.
I once saw a 959 replica, not looking really good but most people starring at it thought this is the real thing. Disgusting.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

I've seen 959s in person , the rear end is so wide and extended that you'd expect a rumble seat to flip out. Porsche has been extracting the stling " DNA " for awhile from that car - elements of the front end seen on the 964/993/997 , rear slats on the 996 Turbo , wheels on the 968 and 964 , etc. Like I said, I'm not fond of it's style but I'm aware I'm in the minority . But even if it were attractive to me for back in it's era - that was 18 years ago. I don't see many other marques' devotees pining for their next car to look like something from back then.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

I have to agree with MKW on this. Tough I love the 959 for it's technical supremacy, I don't really love the looks. I am not a huge fan of big spolers, and for some reason, I find the thing look a bit odd... But it is very hard to predict whether styling elements of it will look good on a modern car.

what is this based on? just because they both have rounded lights doesn't mean it'll look or borrow design from 959. i think that just ur thought.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

To be honest that pic of that 959 has to be one of the most unflattering pics of that car.

    Look at these.

I think the car is hot, and nicer in person.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

    here r more

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

    and more

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

The rear of that black 959 is hot.
    imo

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

lol RR4, you posted a pic of the 959 which I once posted to show what features I though would be taken from the 959 to th 997tt... thus the red ellipse on the *ss... :P

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

959's look way better in person. Sure they look dated now, but Porsche can use many of those lines for the new 997 TT to make it look awesome.

    Re: Black 997 Turbo

    959's are bad-ass.

Well, 996tt did not have a differential gear, and PSM substituted the lack of LSD. Since F430 went e-diff and 959 already had 3 electronically controlled diffentials 20 years ago, I think it would be a logical guess and natural evolution for a 911, wouldn't you agree?

    Au contraire, my dear
Porsche design -as I'm sure you're well aware of- hasn't changed much since the dawn of time, and isnt that part of the story why we love it?
Having said that, the 959 was an icon back then. Both mechanically and designwise.
It still looks up-to-date in many aspects, but the booty and wide arches looks too much like a Porsche trying to be a Countach-style design study.

I think today, it could be a design perhaps Mitsubishi or Hyundai would come up with for a "wild" 200 bhp plastic-sportscar.

So while being anything but archaic, it does not appeal to my sensitive eyes..hehe.
Too much pimp, and it looks like a regular 911 with a diaper....and winterwheels. The proportions are just yikes!
