The car is too unstable in those curves, it needs a big wing
ey ey ey.... I think the car sounds hideous and the behavior tells me that the driver better would have let the electronic Gizmos switched on. I like the green stripes on it.... other than that, just looks like a 911 looks like, hard to tell the difference between R and no R! Not even to think about comparing this car to the GT3 RS which looks a million times better.
Looks like a stubborn attempt of the driver to do a burnout but no idea how to do it, hitting the rev limit continously and still keeping it in 1st gear.
Typical behavior of someone not familiar with a dog leg transmission trying to "impress" the onlookers.

Enmanuel:Lukas:This one looks the business. Great spec with the GT-silver and satin wheels! Also like that there is no porsche text on the side
Definitely the best one I've seen so far. Very very nice !
Indeed! that Volvo stationwagen looks amazing in black!! if only that other car move out of the way of the camera

Carlos, that has to be one of the best punch lines I have read on this board.👍
Seriously, I know Porsche is trying to distinguish the R from other 911's but the stripes don't work for me. To have them on a street car is silly and they look out of place. I suppose if your going to charge that much money you need to find ways to make the car look unique.
Of little, to make much: That is the dream of a human life.

Did you get the sense that Porsche was having trouble selling this car with or without stripes??

Not at all. Porsche could sell a VW if they designated it as a limited GT car. Porsche enthusiast are that gullible. The strips only make the buyers feel they are buying something special and unique Porsche. Porsche owed them that much.

My Audi dealer seems to believe the same, he puts stripes on every new test-car he gets.
Joking aside, I am very angry at Porsche. Just imagine my current GTS Cab with 911 R tech (chassis, engine, brake). Perfect 911 for me. And Porsche is surprised people look elsewhere...

Come on buddy - you love that Audi! You also love that it is finally something different after all those years of Porsche. And last not least - The R8 is a super sports car and not necessarily a family sports car (like the 911) or a granny shopping car (like the 911 Convertible).
It sounds like kidding but I mean it. Yes the 991 got to perfect and way to much every day car. The R might give the performance, BUT the R is not changing the appearance. It is still that beautiful sports car with the same appeal like the last 50 years. The R8 is a different story - feels different, appears different, image different, etc. No granny version, no family version!
Be happy that they didn't sell you that 991 R and you could get that experience with the R8!
I love the R8 but I wish this car would come from Porsche. Is that crazy?
Also, I fell for the 991 R, I wanted one but after I realized that it comes with manual only and that I already have a 911 in my garage, it didn't make any sense, other than getting it and selling it after three months to make some remarkable profit. Not my thing, you know me.
So in the end, I am sad that Porsche didn't offer the GTS with that 991 R engine, chassis and brake setup because it would have made a lot of sense...GT..S. Unfortunately, the marketing department found better use for the tech in a limited edition model. I get it, I understand the strategy but do I have to like it? No. I don't.
The R8 is a completely different kind of car of course but I still love my 991 GTS.

Boyko23:
black with red stripes is too Mustang/Viper " special edition " looking to my American eyes. For the 911R ,if it came only in black with mandatory stripes and door decals , my preference would be set of green ones, esp when contrasted against those dated yellow calipers

The first "but" , so it begins.
I have been looking out for that one. It came faster than anticipated, but I guess some things do never change
