    Discount for 987 post- let tell us!!!!

    Just ordered my 987.

    2.7L Speed Yellow
    PCM
    18" S alloys
    Sound Package
    Sport seats
    Heated seats
    w/deflector
    Porsche crest on heatrest

    I got about USD ~2700 discount. Is that good??
    I m in Australia. and its my second Porsche, hence that dealer said I can get some discount
    since he told me usually they are not allowed to discount to first time buyers....

    Truth or BS????

    for those who hv ordered, how much (USD equivalent) did u get???

    In the UK there is no discounting whatsoever. You're lucky to get a few free gifts from the Porsche Drivers selection when you take delivery.

    It is a common misconception, that you cannot negociate the price of a car. let alone a Porsche or any other hi profile brand. It all comes down to the market at any given time.
    It is also said that you cannot get rebate when you buy a Rolex, IWC or most other hi-profile watches, but nonethelesss, it is pretty easy to get 15-25% discount if you offer to pay cash here-and-now.
    I think the same applies when buying a car.
    In some countries the dealer's margin on a new car is big and so naturally they can discount if they want to and secure a sale that way.

    I think it's total BS that you cannot get a rebate as a virgin Porsche owner.
    Of course you can. And why would you get a rebate the second time? Loyalty rebate? And if so..what will you get if you buy a third Porsche?

    I agree with Dr.Phil, it varies a lot by dealer even in within a city, when I bought my first Boxster in 00, I went to one dealership in Madrid, Spain. The sales guy told me there were no discounts on Porsche's, what can I say I was naive and believe what he said. He was also able to deliver before the summer which was what I wanted so I paid

    When I upgraded to the Boxster S 03, I went to a different dealer also in Madrid, by the way, both are official Porsche dealers, I got a 3% disccount!

    Congrats on your purcahse, I tested the Boxster 987 non-S and it was a fantastic ride, really an improved car over the 986.

    sounds like I got a good deal!

    u guys in UK are lucky, we dont even get to see the car till April 05'.

    let alone test driving one.....
    but if its any better than my 986, then I m satisfied

    Here in the states I was quoted a price of MSRP for my 987 order. I'm sure that if I waited to buy one off the lot in a year or so that I could get a discount but my dealer wasn't going to budge on an early production model of a new car.

    Hi there, guys.
    I 've got a 10% discount on my 987 2.7 (regular price 52.000EUR),but my dealer will use the car for 3 months as a
    demonstration car. The point of delivery to me will be in May next year (dealer get'em in 02/2005).I'll trade in my 986 2.7 (10/2002) for 37.000EUR.It's my fourth porsche (986 2.5 / 996 /986 2.7/987 2.7), but I've changed my dealer with the 987-trade, because the dealer I had before paid 6000EUR!!! less for my 986 2.7.

    February build:

    987 S, Blk/Blk, 6 Speed Manual, Heated Sport Seats, Bi-Xenon Headlights, 6% discount. This is my second Boxster, but first time at this dealer.

    Basically, questions about discounts on new-cars (especially on high-profile cars as Porsche) could be answered, if you take a look on a countrys economic situation. Particularly in UK you have a growing economy (high-price-level in real-estate, higher rates of interest, increasing demand for luxurious products...).
    Everybody knows : increasing demand for whatever means higher prices and the result of higher prices means, that you have a seller market, usually without greater discounts, particularly for new products as 987. In Germany, for example, you have another situation: price-levels are low, need for saving ist high, economy is weak, common demand for whatever is low, you have a buyers market with discounts around every corner.

    Yes, the 10% discount for a showcar are pretty normal here in Germany BUT have you ever seen how people treat the dealer showcars when testdriving them? I would NEVER buy such a car, unless I would really NEED to make such a deal. 3-5% should be always possible, especially on cars in stock.

    yeah... I agree, people beat up the test cars pretty bad. I know from experience . How many people give the keys to their brand new car to a complete stranger and let them put it through the paces? I don't think it's worth the 10% discount. Might as well wait and buy the car used if you want to save money.

    I work in Southampton Docks, and if you saw the way the drivers race around the dock roads like lunatics screaming the engines mercilessly in brand new Renaults you wouldn't be so sure about how new cars are nurchered. I certainly hope new Porsche cars aren't driven like that before delivery.

    Basically you are right.It would be risky to buy a demonstration car. But I know that at my porsche dealer every ride with a demo-car is under survey of the dealer or another porsche-stuff-member. Furthermore it is impossible to get a demo-car overnight or for a weekend.
