Re: New 992 Turbo
schmoell:My two AMGs had this very loud sound when starting the engine (after 2 sec it was over). I always found this more than embarrassing, because - more often than not - I had to leave at 5am. I very much hope that AMG has changed this.
Yep, this sound has disappeared a long time ago but you should have heard my R8 V10 Plus...oh boy.
My Performante is better in that regard, only one short loud burst, then a little bit loud(er) and after a couple of seconds, it quiets down, which is OK because I turn on the engine with the garage door closed, so the neighbors aren't bothered. Works like a charm.
AMG did two software updates on my E63 S and both quieted down the exhaust sound, especially in the lower rev range and at idle. My son was pretty angry, I was pretty disappointed that AMG did that. I am not driving revving high through the city, so the low speed, low rev figure fun was basically gone.
The new GLC63 S AMG is different: They did what they did with my wife's C63 S AMG (facelift with particulate filter), they kind of gave the car a very deep V8 growl (US muscle car like) which isn't very loud but highly noticeable. I just love this sound. Unfortunately, over 3000 rpm, the sound becomes higher in pitch but basically keeps the same loudness, so you can barely hear the V8 anymore. The sound is there, you can hear it is a V8 but it is not offensive at all in sound and it definitely isn't too loud. Pretty nice setup in the lower rev range and at idle but I wish AMG would have allowed the C63 and GLC63 to sound the same in the upper rev range.
