I have a Sharp GX30 camera phone with 1MP resolution, newer ones have 1.3 MP resolution, one or two with even pretty impressive results. One GSM provider (Vodafone) announced a 2MP GSM phone for christmas business, deliveries should start in Nov.. I'll get it as soon as it is available, I saw the picture quality of a prototype and it was pretty impressive.
A friend got a Motorola A780 a few days ago, this is a Linux based software smart phone which not only looks attractive but also has a built-in 1.3 MP camera. Picture quality is pretty good, though there isn't much difference to my pretty good Sharp phone.
Samsung announced a 5MP camera phone for the Korean market, unfortunately this is a CDMA phone and it doesn't work in most countries.
Camera phones can be a serious problem too, they pose a threat to development departments at companies, so they are banned from certain or entire company areas.
When I visited Weissach a few weeks ago, there were some signs reminding me of the WWII: "the enemy is listening...".
Well, absolutely true, the "enemy" is listening and as far as I know, camera phones are banned from Weissach too. The not so funny part during this last visit: when I received a phone call (I forgot to turn off my phone as requested 
), I apologized for using it.The engineer accompanying us smiled and said no problem, camera phones haven't got such a good quality that you could recognize something on the pictures. And this is where this guy was absolutely wrong, even with 1MP my phone takes some pretty decent pictures, I think that a lot of people underestimate the quality of such phones and of course the "danger" they pose.

RC, the pics of the new Astra Convertible/Coupe posted a few weeks ago on AMS were actually taken the exact same way as you described it! To me it is a shame that some people need the attention (or money?) they get out of providing those secret items! Especially inside a company that either pays you or is generous enough to let you get inside...

They're not really "cameras" like you'd think. If you don't subscribe the the wireless internet service you can't get the pictures out of the camera.
IOW, there's no way to download photos directly to your computer; you have to buy the additional service.
The don't bother to tell you this when you buy the phone.

My Sharp GX30 with 1MP resolution uses a SD card for saving pictures. You just take it out, plug it into a card reader connected to your PC/laptop and you can download the pictures. The same applies to the majority of the other 1MP+ camera phones out there.
My first camera phone, a Nokia 3600 as far as I remember, had Bluetooth. No problem to transfer the pictures to my laptop.
My former Siemens SX1 used a MMC for saving pictures and the only "external memory"-less camera phone I owned, the Motorola V600, came with a USB data cable which allowed me to transfer the pictures from the phone to my PC/laptop.

The Official Representative of my cell company told me my top-of-the-line phone will only work in the lame way I described above.
Go figure.
