    Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

What do you think about Chrysler's version of the 911?

Nice how they ripped off the profile of the 911 and turned it into a wacky, tacky, ribbed-out mess huh?

What goes thru your mind when you see it on the street?

If there's a chick driving it I tend to think, "Oh, well she doesn't know anybetter."

If there's a guy in it I immediately start thinking, "Hey, look! There's a Martian who can't tell the difference between and 911 and a Chrysler!"

Man, I love to hate that "911 CrossFire"

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

    Hey... Are you kidding ?

Crossfire is a direct copy of Mercedes SLK (previous model)

Mercedes - Daimler - Chrysler... all the same thing

I reckon they're trying to use up surplus parts or something

I don't even like to think of that car in the same sentence as the 911 !

What he said, same chasis and same engine of the previous SLK. I don't see what the 911 has to do with it, not with looks, not with engine type, not with engine placement, not with performance range, etc.

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

MMmmmm how you got to 911 from crossfire makes no sense to me!
They look nothing like each other!

    Lay off the drugs dude!!!

Dude, open your eyes and look at it from the side.

I especially like that reference to the jag-u-r XKE coupe from the back.

I agree, yet I have heard other people moan/groan about D-C somehow stealing the 991's shape in the Crossfire.

D-C took the SLK mechanicals and put a new body on it--gee it does have two doors, and it's a coupe. Yeah, D-C's copying the 911 alright.

yeah lots of mfgrs are "doing the 911," Look at the Nissan Z coupe: total 911 rip off.

Check out the 6 series BMW, from the side they are ripping the 911 also: amazing design job doing that on a big car!

What bothers me about the crossfire is that it is soooooo ugly with all those lines/ striations. Looks like a nightmare to me since I am so smitten and used to the 911 river-rock-smooth shape.

Maybe, Like a beautiful fashion model who gets her face and arms tatooed: BAD! SAD! and FAD!

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

Yeah! Look at the new VW Bug. They ripped off the 911er design, too. Hahahahaha. I crack myself up.

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

I suppose we need to introduce more different smileys, so that people can fully express their feelings about your post.

The only thing which reminds me of the 911 on the Crossfire is the retractable rear wing, even if it looks completely different. I saw so many Crossfire on the street over here in Germany but I never thought of any similarity with the 911. When the Audi TT showed up, I had strange thoughts about the shape of it's body, especially regarding the 911. And when the Toyota MR2 showed up (the current design generation), I was seeing some similarities with the Boxster. But as hard and as much as I try, I cannot see ANY similarity between the Crossfire and the 911.

Get a Crossfire and be happy. I bet we would be happy too.

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

I cannot see any similarities between the 6 series and a 911

I wish I could get the two side by side and post the photos. but trust me, and go out and compare the two for yourself.

It is truly amazing what BMW did in this case.

yeah ha ha ha. Nah sorry guys, I'm stuck on Porsche.

Bit by the bug since my 911T back in the 70s.

Wait until I actually get my 997S, THEN the [blank] will hit the fan here. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

it's a joke to even compare these two cars. the crossfire is american trash built on an obsolete platform with impure beginnings,... to compare that to the eleven... blasphemy.

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

I've seen both standing right next to each other at a local car dealer, and i've yet to see ANYTHING that looks alike on both cars

Sorry couldn't find a decent pic of a standard 911 so this was the next best thing

I'd be really interested in you sharing with me how you believe these 3 cars look alike

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

Well he has a point...they both have the door just between the wheels, but not even that they have been able to copy in terms of placement

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

My God, the Crossfire has one of the ugliest profiles I have ever seen.

And here is my attempt at creating a BMW-911

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

    Similar?

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

i think that according to max every car with two doors only is a copy of the 911..nice try..keep on the good posts...

I'm afraid the Crossfire is german trash and you would be surprised to see how many people over here in Germany actually like it. I congratulate Daimlerchrysler for their idea to sell an old technical design with a new body. Whoever had that idea is a genius. And people fall for it.

Exactly! That's what makes me sick, to see how they ripped off the 911, just like nissan Z.

THANKS Danny! Exactly what I observed.

    Every one is doing it!

check out Danny's modification of the BMW 6 series above. See? Good! Apologies accepted.

As for the Chrossfire, remove that stupid hump in the back (in a manner similar to the 6 series humpectomy) and the crossfire starts showing signs of 911ism.

The BMW side view illustrates my point very well. The _single view_ in the crossfire case is misleading though, just a starting point for the crossfire. walk around the car and eliminate some other "camoflage" details and CF gets even closer to 911ism.

What's everybody's problem? Can't you seeit? When these mfgrs want to compete in the sports car market which car do they want to copy are styling from scratch? The Porsche 911! DUH!?

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

Yeah well basically you can apply that theory on most cars, however it doesn't mean they copied porsche. Anyway write those manufacturers a letter or something complaining not to use the design of porsche and post the reply back

    Re: Chrysler CrossFire vs 997/S

I hate to admit this, but I was in Connecticut yesterday at a gas station in a mini-van full of people. Three of them asked if I was going to enter the Porsche giveaway contest. The gas station had a banner about a free car. It was a picture of the Chrysler Crossfire. Enough said.
