    FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    Dear Rennteamers,
Sorry for the delay but I went over the last week end as I live in the UK.
Ron, my friend, you didn't miss much, in the sense that you've already seen the pics and that it was so crowded! It was ridiculous!!!
I only did a few stands, Merc, Porsche, Ferrari/ Maserati, Maybach and Rolls.
Wanted to check out BMW but too many people and I don't have friends there, so we couldn't have gotten the wonderful VIP treatment we got. BTW, thank you so much to Merc, Porsche & Ferrari for the kindness, I know you'll read this guys.
    Mercedes:
First visit, they invited us one hour before the opening of the show so it was nice and quiet. We were allowed to sit in cars that were normally closed to the public. The SLR is great but so are the CST and GST. Chatted for a long time with the project chief of the CST/GST, a very enthousiastic german man with a terrible accent and clearly proud of his babies. Very frustrated though too, as he knows that more than half the goodies won't make production.
The CLS is also great. And of course, for all the stands, Coffee, food, etc etc etc. I have been invited to test drive the SL65 and the SLR in a couple of weeks, I will obviously fly back to Paris for that and let you know what I think.
    Porsche:
Very nice too, but the stand not as nice as Merc. The 997 we all know. So I won't write about it. The Boxster looks fantastic too. It's a shame for the public, as the CGT was hidden in a private salon, but I got to play with it for while. Very nice car. And although I haven't driven it of course, the clutch is indeed heavy but no more than the GT2 I tried a while back. Was also offered a test drive on the CERAM circuit, but it was only on Monday, bad luck
I don't know if this is worrying for Porsche, but they can get me a CGT the way I want for March, that's not much waiting time. The SLR waiting list is 8 months BTW.
    Ferrari/ Maserati:
Have my great frient there, so it was like being at home. The 430 is amazing, the interior feels much much better than the 360 or even the 575 GTC that was also on display. Gransport and MC12 are nice, the MC12 is just a monster, loved it! But very cramped inside.
Maybach/ RR: Both are just ridiculously outrageous, but oh so nice! Amazing stand too, we were invited thanks to Merc and Ferrari respectively BTW. I prefer the RR for its sheer presence. The Maybach is just a big S class.
I have taken a lot of pictures, please enjoy them all on my webpage:

    http://homepage.mac.com/thefanch/Menu4.html

Take care all and thanks for reading the long message.
Next post will hopefully be an SLR driving report. I'll see what I can do about the CGT. Oh and I have been invited to test drive the Gransport and 430 too, nice program, lucky me!

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    CLS 55 AMG looks great

also thanks for the first REAL shot of the CGT's radio

apparently its too small to be retrofitted into another p-car (people wanted it for its mp3 player functions) - damn

    great pics.!

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Yes, you are right Moogle, it is clearly a Becker unit, but you can't take it off.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

well i meant buying a replacement unit from a porschedealer and fitting it into a 9x6 generation carrera or boxster.

however, it appears that it is a custom made unit designed for the CGT's dash, and is smaller than the 1-DIN standard width-wise.

a damn shame, its what the CDR-23 should have been

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    Great photos Fanch!

    Thanks for the report.

BTW, this homepage of yours is new, correct?

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

great pics Fanch-- looks like you had a fun time

i'm falling for the CLS AMG, and what's with the pano-roof pics??

    DETAILS??

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Those pano roofs are from the CST and GST they will never make prod due to rigidity issue, they're just for show, but very nice

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Thanks Gary, no I've had this homepage since I got the Mac a couple of years back but I hardly use it. It's quite convenient thought, to post pics for example.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Nice pix fanch and thanks for the report.

Having such a good friend at Ferrari/Maserati your waiting for F430 shouldn't be very long .

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Really nice photos. Thanks for sharing!

    K

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

thanks for the report fanch ,like you i was a little disapointed by the porsche stand ,they should have done better, and i think the best looking stand was the ferrari stand

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Fanch, very nice pictures, but... no girsl?

The panoramic roof won't get into production? I wouldn't bet on that - even Opel/Vauxhaull launched a fighter-jet like front windhshield!

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    Dhayek, have you been there?

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Actually, it will but not in that fabric or shape.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    fanch,

thanks a lot for your impressions! a highly interesting read. and unique pictures -- i especially like your picture of the grigio F430 from above.

the MC12 is very impressive indeed. i wouldn't call it a beauty, but stunning.

your scheduled test drives are awesome! i'm really looking forward to your reportings!

btw, does anyone know which ferrari color this is? looks to me like a very dark metallic grey, like porsche's atlas or slate. the writing could be "grigio... something".

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

There is only one colour for a Ferrari...guess which one.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    Sönke,

I'd say it is Grigio Silverstone!
The one above is Grigio Ingrid - is it true that it is named after Ingrid Bergmann?

Looking at those front ends I imagine how Ferrari's F1 racer would look like in those colours...

    Greetings!

Green? Don't think there is nothing more individual...

seems so, yes. quite interesting. i found the following info...

in 1955 enzo ferrari and pininfarina created a one-off for roberto rossellini -- a special 375MM in this color.

btw: when the car was finished, the marriage was finished as well -- rossellini kept the car for himself.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    wow! beautiful!

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    What a stunning car!

Differing opinions on the 430, but is there anybody out there who dislikes this 375?

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

It's grigio silverstone, the new colour in the range. Ferraris off. say the first pics of the f430 withe cs wheels was this colour, but I cant't believe this because to me they look like nurburgring silver. I'm pending between the colours silverstone and nurburgring.
But off course if I had "balls" I would take a white one.

IMO it was painted in girgio titanio.

but grigio silverstone could look lovely as well. it really seems to me like the slate grey from porsche (which i like a lot).

    HAHA!

yes, definitely. me either. but my dealer is making difficulties -- as i told before, he doesn't allow me to order the car in white.

apart from white, my current favorite is the boring grigio titanio...

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Fanch the photo's of the seats were they for the F430 or 575?

Great shot's! I had planned to attend but could not. However, based on your comment regarding the crowds, I am glad I did not go.

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

    Good stuff--thanks for sharing!

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

Good question Nick, I'll ask my friend Tim, but I think they were just standard 360, 612 seats maybe? Honestly don't know matey, sorry...
And yes, crowd-wise, it was a serious knightmare!

yes ferdie i was there , you?

Re: FINALLY!!! My Paris show report

No, I had the feeling it would personally not be worth the trip, since I don't plan to buy a new car right now...
I would've been curious to see the 430 and Boxster... and the girls at Alfa Romeo!
Spent a lot of time at last years's IAA in Frankfurt, I could imagine Geneve next winter!
What about you guys - any plans already?

Hearing the comments about crowds of people didn't urge me to go either.
