    Tire for Gallardo

I have been looking for some better tire for my Gallardo, but seems P-Zero Rosso is the only choice so far. Does anyone know if there is other selection. If Corsa have that size will be perfect.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

Chris, try michelin PS2 they come in 235/35 and 295/30. If you need help locating them in HK I know someone who should be able to get them.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

michelin pilot sport 2 is good for normal driving,

for even more extreme, go for the pilot sport cups.

michelin is the best tire in the world imho for street / limited track driving.

by the way chris, how does the Gallardo compare to the modena and turbo, i would love to hear your thoughts on this

At the intro of the Porsche GT3 last year, the chief project engineer said of the two factory approved ( N-rated ) tires, the Mich Pilot Sport 2s was the the more "comfort" oriented tire but got noisier than the Pirelli PZero Rosso after each loss 50 % tread . He said the Pirelli was the more " precise " of the two, whatever that means , and the test drivers could feel the difference - but we are probably talking 10/10ths behavior .
However, chassis tuning differences could change these rankings on a different car model !

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

Thanks, novitecR. I also heard the PS2 will have this size. I had this tire on my 996TT, it was better than P-Zero System and Rosso. However, the Lambo dealer said Corsa do have this size too since the sport package comes with it.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

My Gallardo is still not yet run in so it's hard to say how it really perform, but it has a very good handling in corner.

However, the e-gear is a bit different F1. When I up shift and down shift, I can feel a very big time gap between each gear. ie. 4-N-3. But you don't feel this with F1. It means you will feel it shift from 4-3 instead of 4-N-3. e-gear is easier to engage at the 1st gear than F1.

As I didn't have chance to drive fast with my Gallardo yet so I can't tell how is the braking at high speed, but I can tell the 6 piston caliper on my 996TT does has a much better braking than 360. The braking of 360 at high speed is not as solid as 996TT. No idea if the Gallardo 8 piston caliper will be even better.

At high speed acceleration, I think 996TT is faster than 360. Even it has a little higher top speed. May be I had the GT2 rear wing on my TT so I feel it is more stable at high speed than 360.

Gallardo has the stiffest suspension and 996TT has the softest comparitively. At the same time you can feel Gallardo has the stiffest chasis. The cornering of Gallardo is very solid, even better than 996TT, feel like a train on track. At the same speed with 360, I think you need more skill. Actually, I found it's very easy to have over steering with 360. On the other, I had more experience in understeering with 996TT.

The sound of Gallardo exhaust become loud from 4,000rpm and it's even louder than 360 at the same rpm. However, 996TT is always so quiet.

To be a daily drive sports car, 996TT will be the right choice, but 360 will give you more fun since you may need more skill to drive it compare to 996TT and Gallardo.

But I believe, if you can get familiar with the e-gear, Gallardo will be the fastest one and may be the best braking among these 3 sports car.

About the interior, I think Porsche is best among three, Ferrari is just enough, but its air-con always has problem. Gallardo has too much A4 component inside. This is the thing that I don't like. Porsche also has the best driving position and Gallardo is the worse. It's funny that Gallardo does not even have a height adjustable seat. 360 driving position is also OK.

The above are some comment on 996TT, 360 and Gallardo according to my experience, hope it is not too boring for you

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Chris,

That sound better if the corsa is available in the proper size.. btw sent you a PM.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Chris,

Thanks for the comments! Very interesting to read. Any chance you mentioned other "differences" between P, F and L during challenging weather conditions? I am sure you dont get snow there, but what about wet roads from rain?

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Chris, very nice sum-up!

This is actually a great feedback and corresponds from what I've heard of those three cars!

Greetings and have fun with the cars!

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

Chris: thanks very much for the feedback, not boring at all, very interesting to read and hear about how these 3 cars compare

this is the kind of hands on comparison usually only found in magazines

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Thanks for the feedback Chris.
It's not always trivial what the post is about, see I thought that post was about tyres only so I overlooked it only to find out in fact a great feedback on three of the best sports cars available on the market.
These little details make the difference.
    Thanks again.
PS: I really hope the 997Turbo will sound better than its big sister.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

Great to read the views of a "real-life" owner of these 3 cars, as opposed to those of "jaded" journalists. Thanks!

I have been fortunate enough to drive all three cars, but so far apart that I could not draw comparisons as you do. It was interesting to rememember and recognise my own impressions when your views jogged my memories.

Any other owners of different exotic cars out there who want to whet our appetites with their comparison tests?

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

I think 996TT and Gallardo perform better under bad weather. I experienced to travel at 160kph under very heavy rain with 996TT, the whole car was slipped away a bit to the other lane but it was still going in staright line; however, I drove the 360 in a similar condition and the rear suddenly slide away; fortunately, I didn't had an accident, but it was pretty scare.
I think the PSM of Porsche is very good, it saved me many times.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Thanks everybody!

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

Chris, thanks for your comments on TT vs G vs 360 I would observe that on 360s, F has consistently improved F1 tranny, comparing '01 vs '02 vs CS. Also, I'd say CS' steering and chassis feels notably sharper than prior 360s (and G)...and CS' brakes are far more fade-resistant than non-CS 360/G. I haven't had chance to drive 996TT as extensively as 360/G...curious what your sense of turbo lag is on TT? Is X50 notably improved on lag?

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

The turbo lag of 996TT is minimal, but when the turbo kick in you can feel it and give you an excitment of acceleration.
I have not driven the X50 yet but I guess the turbo lag may be is bigger, just my guess.

    Re: Tire for Gallardo

    Great review
