    Rather the lower wing mounts;
The reason that wings on cars are sometimes suspended rather than supported from the underside is that the underside of the wing delivers the most aerodynamic downforce. When using wing supports on the underside of the wing, the support has a large disruptive effect on the efficiency of the laminar airflow under the wing. The idea is that when you use supports on the upper side of the wing, you have the same disruptive effect, but on the upper side of the wing which contributes less to the downforce anyway.

Hi - yes, I was reading about this effect when researching why the Senna is so ugly angry

So makes perfect sense aerodynamically.. was a joke really but yes, it could be the other way around.. hope not.

Well, it looks double ugly at the moment because they created these massive looking wing struts. In the end, it doesn't make sense at all to have struts both on top and below the wing, so I guess it'll look much more like this:

992 GT3 deserves a more attractive rear wing...

...IMHO, the 997.1 GT3 rear wing is a beauty! Smiley

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Agree. 'Only' owned the 996.1 and the 997.2 but that 997.1 sure got it right!

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Latest from Porsche's official Instagram. 992 launches in beginning of 2019. As discussed, it will be in South Africa.

With all these company orchestrated sneak peeks, by the time the car becomes available the novelty will have worn off.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

    It is already worn off...

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

The car in the power slide has no tape on the badge. I guess its not a Lexus after all.

Interest will burgeon when people get to drive the car.

I expect the 992 to be fantastic dynamically and to punch much above its price bracket.

I wish Porsche designers were more brave with the styling, however. The finished car hasn't been revealed yet but  from what we have seen so far it will be very samey, unfortunately.

Novelty and a Porsche 911? Smiley

You get novelty: new door handles,  a rear light bar, and digital instrumentation.  What else is there to want?

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

This lack of variety in the 911 style is a boring phenomenon of the last 20 years.

    996-997-991-992: a continuous monotony.

Before that Porsche went successfully from the ancient Carrera 3.2 style to the fresh 964 and the very special for its era 993 style in a period of just 10 years. They delivered contemporary designs while still maintaining the 911 profile and other visual cues.

I agree with you, but people will keep buying it as it is the most practical sport car that kind of can do it all if one can just own one sport car.

Many "people who know" have been bitten by the 911 bug Smiley  But I'd like to see something fresh that also excites me visually.

I remember in 1989 how exciting the Panamericana Concept was compared to the contemporary 911. This design led to the 993 and some elements were carried over to the original Boxster.

Initially, I was underwhelmed by the appearance of the 992, even as it still wore its camouflage.  Then I read some of the initial prototype driving impressions and I’m now, once more, looking forward to its release.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

It is going to be a great car, no doubt. I am curious if Porsche will continue the big price creep as they have done past few models.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I realize it's a 911, so the novelty would be limited to details.

I too remember when the 993 was launched, and how exciting it was (despite the same old windshield angle and drip rails. And of course the 928. There is no Tony Lapine at Porsche anymore; hasn't been anyone there of that caliber for years.

Weirdly, Porsche’s Michael Mauer heads design efforts for the entire Volkswagen Group.  There isn’t one vehicle that goes into production without his approval.  I do like the new Panamera because it looks like a 911; however, this has caused the 992 to resemble the Panamera too closely.  The new Cayenne looks like a miss designwise, but one cannot deny its incredible performance for a SUV.
