997 Carrera S Videos (20 mm chassis/LSD)

Here are two videos, nothing really spectacular but it gives you a little hint on the chassis capabilities.
Please pay attention, listen to the sound (engine, tire squeaks, brake squeaks and the gear changes) and watch the surroundings and other cars. Also please be aware that in videos, the speed usually seems to be lower than in reality.
In reality, the speed was much higher than it appears in these videos.

I had no chance to drive to the track yet, so I won't comment on where and how the videos have been made. I also don't know the driver.

The quality isn't too good, the videos have been shot with a digital still camera, not a video camera.

Please right click on the "Attachment" link and download the videos to your local HDD Do NOT start the video from the Attachment link because it costs a lot of bandwidth. Also NO direct links to the videos please. If you want to post them somewhere else, feel free to do so but DO not link to them.
If traffic gets too high due to direct linking, we'll remove the videos immediately!!!

1st video works and is great!
2nd video not working, all I get is one frame of a B&W interior

If the videos don't work, rename the filename after the . to mpg! Sorry, we still have problems with our forum software.

RC, the second file doesn't work for me either, it has the video stream corrupted, I can extract the audio from it with a de-muxer but not the video.

BTW good job on the first one

how about some shots from the exterior of the 997S in action?

Yep, now it works

Seems like the 997S does indeed sound like a mix between the std 996 and the 996 PSE as some people have described it.
BTW RC, that part of the autobahn look weird

The second one is working for me.

That was pretty hard driving in a built up area. Frightening little old ladies with walking frames just past the roundabout.

And the way that white truck pulled out. Phew.

Was this in Germany? How would the Politzei view driving like that?

No saint here, btw. But I do wait till there's less traffic around.

The reason why I asked people to pay attention carefully and listen to tire squeaks, etc. was because driving was less spectacular than it might look. This is actually the everyday driving style of the driver and he has no accidents and no points on his license.

I'd call that driving routine, some people might call it different...

I've no probs with the skill of the driver. He seems very good. But when there's traffic around I find it harder to spot the bad guys with their radars.

The little old ladies probably got a thrill from the sound of the engine. "Look Doris. There's a Porsche! It looks just like the one old Kurt used to take me out in, back in 1959. He was some driver."

Your car (997S) sounds like a GT3 to me is this a right assumption?

Well, I'm not sure if my little girl loves the sound but she surely loves driving with me. Unfortunately the airbag de-activation kit isn't available yet and she can drive with me only in the rear.

Of course I would never drive with her in the car like the driver in the videos did because I wouldn't be able to fully concentrate on driving while she's sitting in the rear.
The videos look dangerous because other cars are present but I can assure you that there was no danger at any time.
And the car has not been driven at the limit at any time.
The videos are only a demonstration how stable the 997 Carrera S is in turns and curves and it also proves that there is practically no sideroll.

I might be able to shoot a video myself on a private road near lake Starnberg this weekend but I'm not sure if I find the time. Don't have time to drive to the track right now, Hockenheim is more than 300 km away.

thanks for the vid.

After exiting the Autobahn in the first video, it sounds like the PSM is kicking in (turning left in 1st gear)? True?

I experienced this in several manouvers myself in the 997, despite the LSD.

Good observation!

You really paid attention, didn't you?

Yes, although the chrono sport "sport" button was active, the PSM came on but only once. The asphalt wasn't too clean, this was near an army outpost. The driver didn't want to turn off PSM completely because it was a public street and it was too dangerous.
