... but terrible rear. Looks like a bad-tempered frog.

Re: California at the Paris show

I was being nice Rossi, ferrari has lost their ability to design special cars, but they do make the best interiors.

How about we get ferrari to build the interior for the new Camaro SS?

Rossi, I'm trying to imagine the circumstances under which you get to look at the rear ends of bad-tempered frogs.

Also, do bad-tempered frogs have quality issues with panel-gaps and fit like the blue car?

Re: California at the Paris show

probably just me but the rear panel fit at the trunk and bumper looks outta wack on both cars

Re: California at the Paris show

I think it's just light refraction on the different panels which trick your eye with the panel gaps. The cars I saw at the factory launch had top notch build quality with very tight and consistent panel gaps. I very much doubt that Ferrari would put shoddily built examples on a major auto show stand

Re: California at the Paris show

IMHO that has to be the ugliest car ever to have the privilege of wearing a Ferrari badge. It's sacrilege. Poor Enzo must be turning in his grave. And to think people will actually queue up to buy this.

Sorry but, you are little bit too hard on California... Did you saw it in person? NO? This is probably your answer...

Do you like 599 GTB more? Well, IMHO California is better looking car then 599 but, maybe I am just biased...

Re: California at the Paris show

True KresoF1 - that's a good point - I will keep my final view till I see it in person But, I have seen enough pics to know that I don't like what I have seen so far

I think you'll change your mind when you see it It has real presence and good proportioning with subtle styling cues you need to see in person. It strikes a good balance between forceful and muscular looks within a classic long bonnet, short tail design. I think it will be appreciated by a wider audience in years to come as the design matures just as cars like the 550 did which was initially compared to a Toyota don't forget.

Re: California at the Paris show

The rear shot looks a lot like the Lexus SC.....

Re: California at the Paris show

the rear looks horrible in those pics

Re: California at the Paris show

    Uninspiring.
Looks like a cross between a late model Ford Thunderbird and Lexus SC.

Kreso, I know you own an R8 and that the California and the R8 are worlds apart, but, objectively, which one has more impact on its looks?

Re: California at the Paris show

Honestly, I love the way R8 looks and I like the way California looks.

Re: California at the Paris show

I still don't like the look of the California, sorry they won't win me over now matter how much I have to look at it.

Re: California at the Paris show

I didn't like the look of the Cali - but i think it looks lovely in blue above... Have to see it in person to conclude though.

It's nowhere near the F40 though - that is Ferrari's best effort to date IMO.

Re: California at the Paris show

Well, since I enterred the Ferrari world on the 1st of august 1994 with a 348 TB, I could have lived with every Ferrari produced (from 355 to 599).

Even before that, I could have lived with a Mondial or a 412 i (not so sure of that one thought).

But, for the moment it's absolutely impossible for me to even think of buying the California.

I haven't seen it in the flesh but it would be a miracle if my mind changes after seing it.

Maybe the proportions are ok (I don't think so) but the looks are hurting my eyes, especially the back.

Hell Mike, that's going to make it one of the very cars you don't buy!

Re: California at the Paris show

I saw one of these in dark blue a few days ago driving down the street in Maranello. It turned onto the street I was one, coming toward me. I thought it was a 575 Maranello at first... It wasn't until I saw the exhaust in the rearview that I knew it was a California. It was also relatively quiet.

Re: California at the Paris show

Acording to the italian press the Cali is sould out for the next 2 years...

Re: California at the Paris show

Sold out until 2011 according to the American press.

The California once the "new Ferrari factor is gone" it will be miles behind the Audi on impact looks alone.

And as many of you I also think this car is an fugly frog. Especially the back end!!! Oh dear... what have they done.... I mean in the older times they showed the new Ferrari and it was bang!!! nice i like it! Now all that I hear from all the Ferrari aficionados is "wait to see it on real" "You will like it latter" so much hard work to get used to this ugly frogs.....

You are not 100% correct here, because there were worse looking Ferraris in history. Think of the 365 GTC/4 of the early 70s and the 348 and the testarossa with the "grater" design on the sides,as three example I readily remember.

The California is too cute for a Ferrari with a dubious design of the rear. Little tall and narrow at the back, it looks stacked up like a multistoried structure when looked from behind. Another problem is that it doesn't look macho enough for many Ferrari lovers. It is little feminine and perhaps little gay in appearance if not in its abilities, which have not been tested yet by the public.

The Audi is a successful mid-engined design but its problem is the ubiquitous standard issue Audi grille at the front, because of which the "exotic" crowd cannot take it seriously when parked outside trendy clubs and casinos; until they try to catch one on a winding road, that is.

Yes but you misunderstand the wow factor: that is before you know what car is it, who makes it, the brand, being able to see the detail, so on... it has to make you say "WOW!!!". The Audi does it. I never heard or read of anybody to say no to that. That after that you start to criticise or you don't like the brand is another matter. And the Ferraris befre used to do exactly that. The Testarossa with it's design in the 1983 it did exactly that "WOW!!!" a big one! And everyone liked it, or not after that, but there was no need to start to explain people that this car is a Ferrari! You knew it! And that's the thing the last Ferrarisdon't have, is too much trying to explain why, what is the angles from which to be looked at... so on... And I'm also sure 100% that deep in the heart of the biggest Ferrari fan is a regret for how the California looks and the hard job they have to do to convince people that is a nice looking car. But being a Ferrari badge on the front bonnet....And again this car apart form the ugly rear end it lacks the "WOW!!!" factor.
