    Private trackday @ Abbeville

    Last week I was invited to a private trackday organised by a Porsche collector where he drove some of his toys and we could drive our cars..

    His toys that day:
    1973 Carrera RSR
    197x Carrera ST
    1967 911 R (incredibly rare)
    1984 911 SC RS
    1974/5 Carrera RS
    1974 Carrera RSR Henninger
    ...

    That is very close to my dream list of early 911's!!!

    BTW, I think the 911ST was only made for year 1970...

    wow... love the orange 911. Is that an RSR? How can the difference be seen between an RS and an RSR?

    Some years ago, I saw the original 73 RS (in orange) owned by Ben Pon, the main dutch dealer/importer of porsche (a/o), and just couldn't walk away from it... head to look back again and again ... and again

    Yes, it's an RSR. You can tell by the wider front and rear wheel arches (flares) wherein 9" and 11" wide 15" wheels reside (with huge 4-piston brakes from the 917).

    The RS has only 6" and 7" wheels (later replaced with 7" and 8" towards the end of production). The RS also has different finish on the wheels (Silver pedals with Black background), while the RSR wheels are a matte silver finish.

    You can also tell behind the wheel as the RS has a 2.7L with 210hp at 6,600rpm (redline 7,300rpm) and the RSR has a 2.8L motor with over 300hp at 8,000rpm (redline over 8k)

    Those cars are too fun to drive not to track them though

    If the owner doesn't have to worry about the money when he crashes one of these, I think he's right to track them then...

    You cannot believe how much fun these cars were on track...
    Never have I felt a harder more "direct" car than these old RS's, not to mention the sound!

    Me too Unfortunately a nice one is worth close to $1MM these days. The 911R is worth almost as much too (very first 911 racecar with around 1,800 lbs and 210hp).

    The 911SCRS and 911ST are incredibly rare and valuable too!
