Seat cover -any benefit?

Although the shiny worn look of the side supports is in many ways the mark of a well loved car, would a seat cover help preserve the leather surface? I'd consider adding one to just the driver's seat if it looked like quality and functioned well. Black alcantara or scuba-look is what I have in mind. Has anybody considered and/or tried one that you would recommend?

BTW, I'm also on the lookout for rubber all-weather mats, so I can take myself and a lady friend on a hike without messing up the OEM carpet mats.

What's the point of preserving it if you're not going to see it, hidden behind the cover?:)

FWIW: we're talking about bolster wear; where your your butt hits, right?

NEVER use the bolster as a __slide__.

While still standing on the pavement, ALWAYS _literally_ put your left hand on the bolster THEN lower your a** into the seat.

Do this to STOP using your jeans as sandpaper on that part of the seat.

Nice Ferrari except for the shameful, senseless, mindless wear on bolster:

Seems to me that no matter how gentle the driver can be during entry and exit, over time, wear on the bolster inevitably will occur. In fact, all my cars have had these marks. And whenever I get into someone else's car, I see the same kind of marks.

True, what's the point of covering the leather, because then you cannot enjoy it. That point is probably why I didn't go running into the accessory shop right after I drove home my car.

The issue begs the basic one of all material possessions, "Are you going to use it or just look at it?" Drive you car and you inevitably will accumulate rock chips, door dings, bumper scratches and carpet stains. Leave it at home and it will look beautiful. But then you can't experience it in motion!

I was hoping that maybe someone has come across a tidy solution, perhaps as clever as the clear bra to prevent rock chips...

Except for a little dulling of the shade due to sun, the 23 year old seats in my 928 have no appreciable wear.

Is it due to quality of leather or care?

I would keep them uncovered, get in like mmd says, and treat all the leather every other month with the best leather conditioner on the market.

AND KEEP THE INTERIOR OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT

Wrong (sorry for bluntness: in a hurry). For (non-British) driver's side 1. both feet on pavement, 2. _left_ hand rests on bolster, 3. right foot goes into footwell 4. a** is lowered into seat. 5. A** (back pocket) does NOT touch back of left hand.

I have had many nice cars an developed this eeeeeasy habit many years ago and NEVER had any bolster wear.
