    Audi R4/2011 Boxster!

    So Audi is rumoured to work with Porsche to built the next Boxster platform. So this means we will also see an Audi version, possibly the R4 named.. However, i imagine there to be quite the in house competition so we might see Audi getting the lower end model meaning that the next Boxster will be a true Porsche again to seperate itself its Audi brother!
    furthermore, the TT can say goodbye as it will likely be replaced by the R4. I can't see Audi continue the TT when they have the R4, the A5 convertible, which means the A4 cab is also discontinued.

    anyways, looking forward to the next boxster!!

    Would really hope Porsche won't kill this now it controls vw.

    What will happen will be a study in German precision. The entire VW/Audi/Porsche product line will be perfectly priced in 5-10% price increments with equivalent performance graduation to provide a perfectly harmonious vertical/horizontal product lineup.

    Might want to take a look at page 17 of the October 2008 Automobile magazine issue. That article paints a different picture of what is in store. That article indicates there is a possibility of Audi and Porsche working on a project for a entry level vehicle that on Porsche's side would be, as stated in the article, a modern take on the 356 with a price point of $25k-$45k. According to the article seems Porsche management has made it very clear they don't want Audi poaching Boxster/Cayman sales.

    That new Porsche small sportscar will be based on VW's upcoming mid-engined coupe concept (continuation from their mid-engined roadster concept some years ago). The audi version will be called R3 which is likely to replace the TT. Of the three models, the VW version will have the smallest engines, Porsche version will likely to see their new 4-cylinder engine recently hinted.

    The smaller audi R3 replaces the R4 which was going to be based on the next gen Boxster/Cayman. Porsche does not want audi to step on their territories, so no R4-rivalling Boxster/Cayman. The current TTR is already too close to the Cayman, so Porsche wants to make sure the next gen TT will be below the Boxster/Cayman.

    Hmmm contradicting rumours, but certainly interesting. Haven't heard the modern 356 one yet but sounds very exciting. I was waiting for someone to come out with a pure driving car, that has no stupid electronics (and i don't like that to be a Toyota powered machine )
    So hopefully Porsche will come with something like this.. I might just keep my focus till then and not upgrade or get a moneypit used P car

    Not exactly sure if the implication here is that the 987 is not a "true Porsche".

    I guess that came out wrong, but i was just excited cause we will get an even purer boxster!

    Don't get me wrong i love the boxster. Driven it many times, wish it had one

    Not only that but the issue here is space. There is no space yet another crippled mid-engine car in the VAG lineup. The Cayman and R8 are already crippled and not fully exploited despite the fact that they are two of the best engineered cars on the market. The TT is fine just the way it is now, as a front engine roadster serving as a cheaper and more practical alternative to the more prestigious Cayman/Boxster.

    Developing a dumbed down low-end midengine car would be too costly, in fact a complete waste of money and we all know that Piech and Winterkorn are people who spend money on none-sense projects. And strategically there's no gain or purpose of transforming the TT into a midengine car. This R4 is pure fantasy.

    That is your opinion, not fact. Just because you believe Vag/Porsche should not do something, does not mean they are not doing it.

    Fact is, the Vag/Porsche collaboration on a small mid-engined platform has been taking place and will be resulting products in the next few years :

    Read the article above and the article about the audi R3. I posted about the R3 above but I wonder if people would have read it before keep saying about the R4.

    Now this is fact, not opinion.

    The idea of a revived 356 sounds very compelling although it sounds too much like an MX-5 competitor judging by the output that would be under the already low powered Boxster. It all sounds too messy with three new mid-engine roadster joining the Boxster.
