    911 Clutch Clickq

    Hi all,

I have just picked up my second gen2 911 and when I press the clutch in it clicks and when I release it it clicks - I never noticed this on the other gen2 911s I had.

    Is this faulty?

    Thanks

When you say it clicks, do you mean just once, or is there a series of clicks?

If the latter, this sounds like something which has arisen with earlier 911s. I had it once on a 996. If I remember correctly, your dealer should have access to a Technical Service Bulletin describing how to fix it.

It just involved mechanical parts rubbing. Irritating, but nothing to worry about.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

I have it too on my 06 997s. Some said it might be a 'spring',.Anyone have it confirmed by dealer?...ThanksGR

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

Just a guess, but you could check in foot well under the dash there is a _switch_ mounted along side it which the movement of the clutch pedal lever is actuating.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

Thanks...I will check it out this weekend and will report back. By the way what does it switch?...Thanks..GR

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

There are 2 switches. One is used to make sure the clutch is down when you start the engine - same drivers tape that as they think it is better to start the engine with some load (less crankshaft wear); this switch's click is the one you are referring to, in all probability. The other switch is used to regulate RPMs and avoid stalling. This is also controversial among many people, i.e., drivers who do know how to launch. It's there, because PAG realized the current majority of manual transmissions do not know how to operate a clutch properly.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

On the GT3 the click is there for every time you push the clutch pedal beyond a certain level. I was aware of it only for the first few weeks, now I don't even know it's there unless I concentrate on it.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

its a microswitch noise (quite quiet) - when you push the clutch all the way down it clicks and then when you release it it clicks agains (same point going up and down it clicks).

I have spoken with someone else who has a gen2 and he has the same noise so it must be normal.

Interesting.... Not sure if it is the same setup on the new 911, but the manual Cayenne also had a micro switch for the drive off assist on the clutch. I suspect this may be the case on 997.2 ?

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

    ahh you use Nottingham too.

I had three cars from them over the last few years. Are you happy with them? Have to say the trade in on my 997 mk1 is pitiful but I'm not sure its better anywhere else?

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

lets hope they sort out the creaking noise first that was quick!

    Chris that link is incorrect....

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

just spoke with the dealer and they said it is normal - the salesman went into a gen2 car and it did the same - he said it was very quiet but could hear it.... its the microswitch for the starting of the car.

Maybe mine is louder - will check one day when I am down again.... or maybe Im just being hyper sensitive with all the things that went wrong with the last car......

Atleast i know the switch makes a noise for other people to (maybe different levels of noise)

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

What happend to your first car? was there major problems with it?

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

Definitely the microswitch telling the car it is OK to start (ie. clutch depressed).

That's it! Like cig lighter more needless junk. I'm ripping mine out to save weight.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

there wasnt major problems just a few probs - will post details in another post later......

moogle - does yours do it all the time or just at startup? mine is really noticable (i.e. everytime i press clutch I get the 2 clicks) and I am thinking maybe it is much louder than normal.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

i know what you mean about being sensitive to problems ( had a few on my run about car)....once you hear it then thats all you listen for! maybe get someone in for a ride and see if they notice anything odd (without saying what it is).if not it may me you listening for that particular noise

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

That microswitch has been used in Gen.1 cars as well, as far as I am concerned it prevents from starting the car with engaged gear. Have never tried the later to confirm...

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

yeah john I think I am being very sensitive about noises - how loud would people say your microswitch is? I can still hear mine with quite low volume music on.

    Re: 911 Clutch Clickq

I have a 996 GT3 not a 997... but yes, it is obvious every time. Just ignore it.

Uh oh..., if it were I, this situation is starting to sound like _trouble_.

    The solution, IMO:
