    Re: porsche ceramic brakes

    Trip,
I thought that brake calipers could be ordered in different colors. It sin't a no-cost option though.
However, at least black, silver red and yellow should be possible, as these are the standard colors of the various calipers.

If thats true its news to me. I aree it should be possible but I've never seen a porsche without the standard caliper colors from the factory.

I wanted silver calipers on ordering and was told if big reds, factory would paint them silver,no problem. However PCCBs came in yellow only.

    Re: porsche ceramic brakes

Just so y'all know? Red brakes mean "better" brakes, "yellow" calipers mean "be$t" brakes, silver (on CGT) mean "you can't have these brakes."

The reds on Boxster, Carrera and TT are all different: rotor size, and piston numbers. Yellow just means PCCBs, diff sizes according to model. Black means "plane jane" base model also in different sizes.

Seems like a plot by Porsche to make owners paranoid about who's brakes are better; the brighter the color the better the brake.

Gold brakes anyone? Wait for the BTCPDUPBs. Made with Aerogel technology from boron titanium ceramic plasma-fused depleted uranium phosphate bichloride coming out next year. (just kidding).

    Re: porsche ceramic brakes

    It used to be this:

    Black - base model
    Silver - 4WD carreras
    Red - High performance variants
    Yellow - Best brakes offered.

Forget gold! I want my brakes luminescent! Paint the calipers in tritium like they do for wristwatch hands or gun sights.

    Re: porsche ceramic brakes

I want mine made from unobtanium and I don't care what color they are!

    Re: porsche ceramic brakes

Brake squeal has never been a problem for me (14K miles). I rarely drive my car in the rain, even here in the Pacific Northwest rust belt, but Porsche has a feature where if you lift off the throttle quickly the car senses an emergency stop may be required and lightly engages the brakes so that if they are wet they will be dry by the time your foot can get to the brake pedal. If you lift your foot off the gas in a casual manner in the rain the initial bite of the brakes will be degraded somewhat, because it takes a brief moment to dry the rotor. In any event I don't view this as a significant problem.

If squealing brakes drive you nuts, don't get ceramics. They emit a high-pitched screech almost half the time on light braking. Braking hard isn't a problem, and a few serious stomps on the pedal seems to make the squeal go away for a while.

I also had the experience of a delay in braking after driving in the rain.

Still, I don't regret buying them. The initial feel on hitting the pedal is definitely more confidence-inspiring than red brakes. It's nice not to have brake dust, the wheels on my 996 were filthy after an hour's drive.

Squealing half the time on light braking for you???

Weird, my steel brakes squealed on my 997 S but my PCCB's have never squealed, not once.

Seriously wouldnt ever consider owning another Porsche without PCCB's,

If it's a "cheap" Porsche like a Boxster/Cayman or even a standard 911/S I would go for the standard steel brakes, since they are not bad at all. If you go for a higher model like GT3/turbo only PCCB. I would never buy a Ferrari without them for example, but since they are now standard there you don't even have a choice.

Agreed. Although went w/ the standard brakes on my 997 S cab & they were the only part of the car I really hated, couldnt wait to trade the car in because of complete mess they would make. But performance wise for a standard type 911 they're fine as long as you dont do all your own washing/detailing and dont mind rusty water & crud dumped into the wheels. And no the stuff doesnt come out w/ a blower/compressor.
