    Waterless Car Wash Spray

    I was thinking of trying this stuff. Lots of times my car's not that dirty and hosing it down requires a lot of time (e.g. gotta immediately drive it to dry brakes, and much more).

    Looks like you have to follow instructions carefully ! Check them out at link.

    What do you think? Just for light dust and dirt? What's the scratch damage level do you think? Is the theory sound?

    That would be my main concern. I don't like the idea of just wiping grime and road debris around with a spray and towel.

    Uuuuuhhhhh - how should that work. If you use the towel and there is major dirt underneath it seems to be a scratchy thing!

    What about using compressed air? Apply the spray and then after a while remove it with an air gun. Should work, right?

    I think that that is often referred to as "sand blasting"...

    I use several Griot products and they are very good if somewhat overpriced (Chemical Guys products are as good and better priced in most cases). Good as Griot products are, I would be VERY careful using a product like this. The line between a very thin layer of dust and enough actual debris to cause fine scratches has to be very thin.

    Very little difference between this product and other "quick-detail" products...

    Basically, the ingredients in the spray "emulsify" the grime or dust into a solution, effectively creating a soft-slurry incapable of scratching your paint that wipes and buffs away clean...

    You're correct, fine for light dirt or dust, not advisable for heavy dirt/grime of a granular nature...

    Used gently and sensibly, it's a super alternative to drowning your car with the hose and dealing with water dripping out of everywhere when your done, jambs, seams, gaps, gutters, etc...

    Will it scratch? Again, not if you use it appropriately, and with COMMON SENSE. Go after light residue, film and grime with it, but no granules like mud or dirt from a dirt road.

    You can go visit Pebble Beach, or Amelia Island, and pretty much witness EVERY CAR OWNER using similar products to wipe down their multi-million dollar perfect and scratch-free restoration prior to judging...

    So properly and common-sensibly used, the whole "eek, you'll scratch the hell out of your car" is unfounded, and untrue. These types of sprays are a staple in car collector's detail kits.

    I turn to the quick-detail spray when my car needs a wipe-down, but has not been driven in the rain to where puddles and road spray have slung actual sand and granules across the bottom and side portions of the car... Your spray will not dissolve that, and that's the point at which there's no substitute for a hose, bucket, and lots of suds....

    Their prouct has to be based on something reliable ingredient-wise.

    My guess is Griot's would be burned to the ground by radicals in the OCDLG (Obnoxious Car Detailers Liberation Group) if they tried to sell a product that was total BS which damaged a car's paint.

    Yes, in many circumstances, it is kinda pointless... The spray comes in handy for spot-cleaning, or if your car is still fairly clean, you just want to sparkle her up prior to putting her away in the garage without rusting your rotors and getting water into everything that's still clean (like your jambs and gutters and whatnot, I keep all those areas detailed and spot-free, and when I wash, I have to go back over ALL of it...

    It's just a good thing to have around... If you're O.C.D. like me, you take your car out for a spin, come back and it's just picked some marginal road-dust, you California-dust the top, and do the nose and lower sides with Quick-Detail, and you're back to perfectly-detailed in a matter of 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a 1-hour-plus full wash and dry job...

    This really has to do with what your habits and uses are for your vehicle... Quick Detail sprays are really aimed for the collector car and occassionally-driven market...
