another one to watch next year.

    Lotus Evora

    mid-engined. all new chassis. Lexus 3.5L V6
    0-100 sub 5 sec.

    ~120k AUD.

lets hope it drvies as good as it looks (knowing Lotus it probably will)

Porsche better do a good job with the Cayman facelift....

anyone here seen this in person at the London show??

Re: another one to watch next year.

Is it really that cheap? Hmm. Apparently the build quality is first grade too!

Re: another one to watch next year.

according to the TopGear Mag (aussie version) it starts about 120k here.

so maybe 150k onroad with some options.

a brand new Esprit aparently will be out in 3 yrs time, and that should be about 200k+.

hence 150k make sense as a middle range for Lotus.
and a good price point to target the Cayman.

tho based on performance figures and 2+2midget seats config, its more a mini-911.

a much better interior than Porsche's IMO.
second to R8. but need to see in person re quality. at least its not made in Malaysia.

    cant wait!

any one took some pics at the show??

Re: another one to watch next year.

I didn't like it initially, but I am warming to it. I think this car will be a much better option for your needs Derder. At least you don't have to worry parking a $120k car on the road.

Re: another one to watch next year.

Sounds good, btw is lotus in partnership with toyota? Or do they just have an agreement for engines?

Lotus is currently owned by Proton, a Malaysian car manufacturer.

Re: another one to watch next year.

    The real test:
How many people will have that over a Cayman or a used 911?

No way it will be $120k if a top of the range Exige S 240 is over $150k. Unless they do something radical it will be $180k plus. All Top Gear have done is taken the UK price and used an exchange rate but the price doesn't take into account taxes.

Re: another one to watch next year.

I have seen this car up close and sat in it. Quality is way higher than any previous Lotus.

Re: another one to watch next year.

cgt, what is the back seat like? As big as the 997?

Re: another one to watch next year.

    Back seats:

Re: another one to watch next year.

Seats look big enough, legroom is non-existent...

as in mostly any other 2+2 sportscar (like Ferrari California for example).

Re: another one to watch next year.

    Interior ergonomic view.

Re: another one to watch next year.

    LOL... I don't think I'd like a leprechaun's knees in my back.

Re: another one to watch next year.

the 2+2 layout is a joke. though it seems u sit very very close to the floor. which is a good thing.

re the price. yeah, it must be wrong cos some of the prices in that topgear mag are way off.

    if its 180k+. i would get a used 911.

.........and head room is non-existent as well. I saw the car during London Motor Show during press day. Front end design is sweet although the rear end looks a bit squat as a result of the funny C-pillar. The 2+2 marketing ploy is pathetic since the rear seats are as, if not more, useless than those in the 911. The transparent layout illustration above says it all, some the size of the driver would not fit in the rear............unless the person in the front want knees pierced through their upper body. Just like with the 911 the rear seats are just for kids but will in reality be used as cargo space.

Re: another one to watch next year.

I think Lotus is clever in making the rear a bench instead of 2 individual seats. One of the often asked question for a 911 is whether it is wide enough for a baby seat (answer is no except for 1 or 2 specific seats that are narrow). With this one, you will not have that issue and babies don't exactly need tons of leg room...

Re: another one to watch next year.

Funny how the the 911 is always argued as a 2+2 practical everyday supercar only when compared with 2-seater supercar competition.. whereas in just about any other topic, people actually admit the rear seats are almost useless..

Re: another one to watch next year.

I don't think they are useless. I have ferried 4 adults in my 997 a few times. Yes, the shorter (usually female) friends sit in the back, and it's not the most comfortable, but it can be used nevertheless. Had I driven the AMV8, 2 of them would need to catch a taxi which spoils it a little.

So the Lotus should do as well. It's not a saloon, right. What do people expect from a compact sportscar?

They complain if it's a 2-seater, but they also complain about the rearseats if it's a 2+2. Something's gotta give, the Evora is not a big heavy GT coupe or a saloon..

Re: another one to watch next year.

The rear seats are designed for children under 9, or the occasional adult squeezed in or sprawled across both back seats. Pretty cool I think. After all, you don't have to use the seats if you don't want to

Re: another one to watch next year.

I sat in the back of a 911 once, and it was torture.
    and I am only 5 5"

    Way:
I sense u r already thinking about this car

hopefully we get more info re price soon in OZ and drive reports. but I am sure we will see it here first. thx guys.

Re: another one to watch next year.

Hey Wayne...or anyone else....what is the width of this Lotus? It needs to be able to fit into my small garage..

I think we need to test drive one...let me know.

Re: another one to watch next year.

Parki, we should definitely go test it out! I may go and ask the Lotus dealer tomorrow when this car is coming...

Re: another one to watch next year.

    Wayne.

i think its coming end of 09.
so I doubt dealers will have any clue re specs or pricing yet.

may get more info online. Last time i went to the Lotus dealer that guys knew less about the Exige than i did..... and I know nothing about Lotus.

but i m sure they will treat u differently when u park ur Aston outside!

let us know if they tell u more re prices etc.

Re: another one to watch next year.
