    Stock suspension is adjustable?

I was tinkering with the Boxster S this afternoon and came across the shock towers... Looks like there's a hex on top of it. Does this mean that they are adjustable? See pics...

    Re: Stock suspension is adjustable?

    Another pic

    Re: Stock suspension is adjustable?

I don't believe so, but I am sure there are plenty of retrofit alternatives available. My 987S is equipped with PASM, and at first I would only drive it in the standard mode, but lately, I have really enjoyed adjusting it to the sport mode. Of course, my previous cars were a Lotus Elise with a sport suspension and various S2000's. The Boxster suspension is much more supple yet communicative with or without PASM.
By the way, I noticed your car is guards red, what a great color, but I am extremely biased.

Wow you have a great color for a car! Ask me how I know? I took my pic at bright sunlight. It looks a little "orangy". What WAX do you use? The color seems to "pop". I like it.

    Re: Stock suspension is adjustable?

you guys should get the air intakes painted body colour.

i love using the pasm - reminds you it is a real sports car when in sport mode.

i read a thread on the 997 and the persons very well written conclusion and reasons suggested the short shifeter really was limited value?

Whoever wrote the article hasn't a clue what they are talking about or drove a car where the linkage needed adjusting. I've recently retrofitted the short shift in our car, giving me a very direct comparison and it is a revelation. Short, precise throws that really do make the standard shift seem sloppy and agricultural by comparison.

There is an old saying in engineering - if something isn't broken, don't try and fix it.

Wow, great looking car! Yesterday, I saw another Guards red 987 and it stopped me in my tracks. I never get tired of looking at it.
Believe it or not, I have not yet waxed it, as I took delivery in Jan.'08, but I do use Griot's speed shine for washing, which means I never use water to wash the car. Also, I use a clay bar and Klasse for any heavier film on both the paint and glass.

I must agree with DREAMCAR on this one. My '06 987 S had the standard linkage, and my '08 987 S was ordered with the factory short-shifter. The short-shifter is the best shifter of any car I have owned. To call the standard shifter "sloppy and agricultural" by comparison is a bit harsh, as I thought the standard shifter in my '06 was great, especially in comparison to my Lotus Elise, but I believe DREAMCAR is enthusiastically expressing his preference to the short-shifter. Lastly, it is beyond my understanding as to why something so simple and yet so good is an extra-cost option.

Probably so that muppets like you and me pay extra for something that ought, as you quite rightly say, be standard.

The short shift reminds me very much of the superb shift that was standard equipment in the S2000 I owned a few years ago.

Who else but Porsche would get away with charging extra for sports seats or a sports steering wheel in a sports car?

    No such luck

that's there to enable you to take apart the strut for servicing. You insert a hex key in the top of the shaft while loosening the nut on the upper spring seat. Without the hex key on the top of the shaft it would just spin.

vince - don't forget that the stock shifter was changed to the Cayman version in 2007. not diminishing you rcomments, but a stock 08 would be noticeably better than the 06.

thanks for the comments on the SS. i think i will get one!

Yes, I really don't know what the '07 and '08 standard shifter feels like, but I imagine it is quite nice as I liked the standard '06.

    Thanks,
