Re: Quoted DIN weights 997GT2

RC, fully agree with you!
Attended the Porsche Sport Driving School last month and I have to admitt what a diffeence a good driver makes. I was following my instructor in my 997 Turbo (he was driving a Boxster) and I could n't follow him in some sections. Driving skills are all.

ScottL:Are you sure? I am using the BBS LM rims for my winter tires. Based on my dealer's info these rims have nearly identical weight specs as the standard GT2 rims
Invest in some forged alloys for your GT2 - that'll save another 14kg's. BBS or Champion.
The Corsa's are better than the Michelin Cup+'s. Hoosier R6's are what you really need though! Talk to Steve at Simply Tyres.

Personally I would go for the RG5's or the RS98's. One piece forged wheel. Stronger and lighter than the BBS. The Porsche "GT2" centre caps also fit.
RG5's
RS98's
Another one of the RS98's with black centres and polished rim

Guys, my poverty spec GT2 will be weighed shortly but on reading through the '09 manual it is interesting to note the Porsche specification for "weights"
They quote:
per DIN 70020 1440kg to 1525kg
Could someone (Markus)
) check and see if the '08 booklet has the same range of weight, because if not it looks like Porsche are actually listening and coming clean on the variations possible due to options

FWIW, the German 996 GT2 driver's manual gave the DIN weight as 1420 to 1480 kg.
That is, it also gave a range to cover options.

Just checked my driver's manual: 1440-1525kg is still correct (DIN weight).
Looking forward to seeing the results of your weight test

Someone help me understand 'DIN' and 'EC' please.
Official Turbo manual coupe figures are:
Unladen weight (DIN) = 1585 kg
Unladen weight (EC) = 1660 kg
And my car's measured weights are:
Car no driver = 1562.5 kg
Car with 80kg driver =1642.5 kg
I have ceramic brakes, lighter HRE wheels and lighter CG exhaust - but pretty much every factory option in the list.
So your GT2 Toby is 97.5 kg lighter than mine with no driver yes

Alex, the 3rd post on this thread explains the EEC weighing criteria - the DIN measurement is 90% fuel load and all fluids and that's it, no luggage or occupants - so a Euro GT2 with the bigger 90l fuel tank will be ~22kg heavier in this definition than the smaller RHD 66litre jobbie....
1562kg is still light for a 997tt - imagine how heavy it would be without your special light bits ? and yes if your car was weighed full of fuel then the 97.5kg delta looks right
