    Auto Bild handling test(997C4S, R8, LP560-4)...

    ...M3 sedan and some other not so interesting cars(X6, 135i, SL63, Scirocco etc.).

    Test track was Goodyear Mirval 3.3km long for dry and same track shorter version(1.69km) for wet.

    Key cars results:

    PORSCHE 997.2 Carrera 4S(Bridgestone RE050A N1, PDK, Sport PASM, PCCB, SC Plus)

    Dry 1:37,60min Wet 1:11,40min


    AUDI R8(Pirelli P Zero R01, manual, Magnetic Ride, Ceramics)

    Dry 1:36,60min Wet 1:07,00min


    LAMBORGHINI Gallardo LP560-4(Pirelli P Zero Corsa, e-gear, Sport setup, Ceramics)

    Dry 1:34,20min Wet 1:08,40min


    BMW M3 Sedan(Michelin Cup+, manual)

    Dry 1:38,30min Wet 1:15,1min

    I'm surprised to see R8 beating Gallardo in the wet, it's not even the V8 version. Has Audi put a better 4WD computer in the R8 than the Gallardo?

    Less power and torque=better traction! It is a well known thing that on the short tracks LP560-4 is little bit faster then R8(dry conditions). Of course, on very long track like the Ring situation is different...

    It's clear that Porsche's awd is nowhere near as good as the Lambo's and the audi's.

    The Mk2 is using the new electronic PTM. That's probably the reason.

    If you want performance and driving pleasure keep away from 4wd Porsche sports cars.

    Buy the 4s only if you have to, due to the climate in your area. Even then, you better get an SUV for when there is snow, and drive a proper 2wd Porsche any other time of the year.

    Very disappointing if you ask me. I'm sure Porsche is working on something new and revolutionary as far as 4x4.

    You know... It is pretty funny that old Visco based AWD(from Gallardo and R8) is so efficient in mid-engine layout and new electronically controlled PTM in 997.2 is not... Audi R8s AWD is BTW pretty agricultural in some aspects-you can feel it when you are turning the steering wheel at very low speed and slow drive(parking in garage for example). BUT, in the end it is slower in response but, way more efficient in drive dynamics then SOTA PTM...

    It is a true shame that R8 platform do not allow implementation of S Tronic(DCT stlye) gearbox... Just imagine updated R8 with new 4.0L V8 TFSI(YES! New engine will be intrduced next year in S7, depending on kompressor power is up to 460ps/560Nm) 460ps and DCT gearbox... Bye, bye 997.2 forever and ever...

    Kreso, how do you see supercharger vs turbocharger ?

    Merc has been using kompressor for decades but now they're phasing it out and going the turbo route, but on the other hand audi is resurrecting the kompressor. It's only good for petrol engines, not diesel correct ? 460 ps from a 4.0L is great achievement. How about fuel economy vs turbocharging though ?

    Interesting question...

    Why Audi is bringing kompressor back? Well, simple enough Audi technical wizzards discovered something interesting-that new FSI engines are very,very friendly for kompressor. Benefites? Excellent throttle response without any lag, linear power deliver with slight push only, lower then turbo CO2 emissions and simpler tecnhical layout of a engine...

    Does that mean that Audi will drop turbos? NO. Small 4 cylinder engines will be turbo or turbo/kompressor charged. You can see even biturbo V8 but, I can not say any more right now...

    BTW, regarding new 4.0L V8 TFSI(kompressor)-it will be offered in two versions: 395ps/520Nm and 460ps/560Nm.

    Porsche needs to put the engine to the mid of the car. A rear engine fired car will always be worse to handle than a mid-engine!
