    Awesome tailpipes

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

Wow - about time someone made a hardcore cabriolet!! The wheels look tacky tho...

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

no pics of the front ??? ive always wondered how a Scud spider would look like, i started a thread about a month or more ago to see is there were any pics or renders. Seems like Ferrari listened to my curiosities.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

I suspect the vast majority of the cars that will be sold will spend more time on Boulevards than on tracks.

Track demon + convertible = Milk and oil = Don't mix

This would be as silly as Porsche launching a GT3-RS convertible.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

it's a fake. 430 spider with scud bits slapped on the back. front is stock.

Aren't you forgetting the fact that both the F50 and Porsche CGT are open topped serious performance cars?

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

Thankfully Porsche / Ferrari are not yet that silly.

Mercedes did launch a CLK-DTM Convertible

The difference is that the F50 and CGT are roadsters rather than convertible and didn't have their structural rigidity reinforced resulting in added weight. With that being said close to zero of the CGT's performance is compromised because of the targa top.The supposed 430 Scuderia will be noticeably compromised as a performance car if turned into a convertible. Performance will be noticeably inferior to the coupe.

Any car which has an open top, especially a high performance one - be it targa or convertible - requires significant strengthening work. Both the F50 and CGT would have been lighter had they been engineered as fixed head cars. Interesting that you "surmise" performance will be compromised when none of us are aware exactly what steps Ferrari would take to strengthen the bodyshell of a spider version. A lot of the strengthening of the shell which involves steel in the standard spider could be replaced with carbon fibre in a Scuderia version for example. Ferrari's own stats for the F430 spider show that it is 0.1 sec slower from 0-62mph and only 3mph down on top speed. I really wonder if you could notice 0.1 of a second difference Most Scuderia's will never get anywhere near a track in any case and in on road driving a 10th of a second is hardly a huge performance gap.

Fair enough but you're forgetting that convertible and roadster, targa in particular have different architectures. The structure of the CGT is much different from the structure of 911 cabrio. Cars like the Boxster, MX5 and Z4 are built from the ground up to be performance focused hence the name roadster. The CGT is even on a higher level constructed in a way where the amount of body flex is on the same level as a car with a fixed roof, kind of like an F1 or Lemans car. The F430 has a much larger cabin and isn't engineered in the same way as the F50 and CGT. I'm sure Porsche and Ferrari tested both cars to the level that a targa top wouldn't increase drag of affect rigidity to the level that it would make a difference in notable performance.

In terms of acceleration and achievable speed the Scuderia Spider wouldn't differ too much compared with the coupe. The difference would be felt in cornering and when pushing the car hard. But like you said most of these cars end up as poser riders and probably never touch a circuit unless it's a Ferrari parade. Though there is a chance that Ferrari has worked on some magic here and defied the laws of physics like they did with the magical 599GTB.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

Creating a Sypder version of either the Scuderia, Gallardo Superleggera or GT3RS/GT2 simply goes against the purpose of the car. I like cab's, but not on a 'stripped-down, lightweight racer'. It may look nice, but it's still a dumb idea.

All I can confirm for now publicly is that the car will indeed be open top, and LIGHTER than the Scud.
Think Barchetta with an SOS roof rather than a convertible.
    500 worlwide.
    I'm on the list.
More info officially from Ferrari later this year.
Last 430 variant before its replacement.

But YES, it is coming and it's gonna be mental!

Carrera GT is not a convertible. It's a full carbon monocoque tub chassis.

The targa roof is just a bonus, albeit a great one as it makes this car an all weather device.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

    F-ing ugly color choice

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

first market it as ferrari's ultimate track weapon and the throw a spider version at the market.
how silly is that. i would understand a limited f430 spider with more hp and extra bits and pieces. but to base it on the scud is stupid and silly.

as mentioned before it's like porsche doing a GT3RS cvonvertible...

cabs unless built like the cgt of f50 with monocoque construction will never be as rigid as the coupe counterpart.

its far easier for me to accept a 4 door and an suv than a scud spider.

I see things different. There have been many great pure sportscars without a roof, so why not a Scuderia Spider? If they make it a barchetta (what seems to become true), with a light weigth roof top, perhaps even made out of CF, resulting in an open Scuderia weighing not more than its closed counterpart, there's nothing wrong with such a model. And regarding rigidity, the V8 Spiders are very rigid convertibles, much more than a 997 cab for example. So a Scuderia Spider would bear no problems in that respect also.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

I think its all just hype. Considering the fact that Ferrari has a one year extension on the 430 model, i can see them entertaining the thought. But if you just look at the model history, no hardcore version of their entry level (ie. stradale) has been made with a drop top. It defies the purpose i'd think.

Not saying it wouldnt be fun, but just not in line with what they usually do. The California is already a new type of car which satisfies the customer demand for a convertible which includes all the toys/options.

Also, dont forget they would be hurting the exclusivity of the scuderia by producing more in convertible form. Again...history shows us that Ferrari generally stick to the initial production numbers of their special cars(few models exempt).

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

    Just a few thoughts:

    1) There also has never been a frontengined V8 before.
    2) Scuderia numbers aren't limited.
    3) Scuderia Spider is said to be limited to 300 - 500 cars worldwide.
    4) If they can earn money with it, they'll do it.

Guess both sides of the argument make sense then. We will just have to wait and see

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

I would love to see this car! I think a lot of people here are looking at it from a different mindset than they would to be able to appreciate it.

Think of it as the step up for the people with the F430 Spyder but want something open topped, but faster.

If you think of it as a less rigid F430 Scuderia, then you might not like it. But to be honest who buys this car because they plan on racing it? If the open top is more enjoyable to people, this car would be the ultimate track car to them!

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

Honestly, I can see Ferrari making this car just for fun (and money) even if it less not as great as the normal Scud on the track.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

OK, this may either be a major blunder on Ferrari's part or a case of subliminal advertising, but notice a picture of a 430 Scuderia Spider in the background in the segment when they interview Mr. Bahar (at the very beginning of the clip)...

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

    Good spot assman! Subliminal indeed.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

    Yes, good eyes.

I think a 430 Scuderia would only be acceptable if it is a Barchetta with NO folding roof that adds weight. A panel roof like the carrera GT would be fine. But you still have the issue of needing structural reinforcements that add weight because of the loss of a real roof.

    Great catch assman!

A CGT-style roof would be great, never was a big fan of the cloth roof, so a CF-roof would do it for me.

    Re: 430 Scuderia SPIDER

Its a cool yellow Scud Spider!

    Cheers assman,
