    New Porsche! C2S

Hi all, new member here. I am picking up my first Porsche tomorow, a 2007 911 Carrera S coupe, in midnight blue/beige. I dont think I will sleep much tonight, I cant wait! I will post up some pics once I get the car home. Anything important I need to know about the 2007 Carrera S?

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Congrats! The only thing you have to know is that you should take at least two weeks off... ;-)

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

    just have fun with it...

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Sounds like you have my exact car. At least what I used to have. 2007 Midnight / Beige C2S.

Get a good detailer or read up how to make Midnight look good. When in good condition it looks great. But the dark paints are very easy to notice scratches and marring. If you like to take it to a drivethru, well then expect it to only look so so after a few months.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Make the time and do a "break-in" Road Trip.
Take a weekend and visit the Grand Canyon for example (900mi total)
Avoid local short haul drives where full temps never occur!

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Two guys that work in the dealership told me there is no break in period for the 2007 3.8 motor, just to "vary the revs and not use cruise control" This seems simplistic to me, I have never owned a car that didn't require some sort of break in, even with no break in period for the engine I would assume the brake discs and pads would have had a 300 mile break in period. Whats the deal?

Porsche boxer engines break in lasts 50,000 miles... the engine blooms and becomes more elastic as it runs miles.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Love your color scheme, except you should have gotten a cab :-)

I was very careful about observing the break-in period. I was on a road trip when I passed the magic milage number, and had a great time flogging it the rest of the way home.

    Have fun.

Sounds like fun, but the flogging should be progressive post break in (2000 miles). The engine isn't completely broken in until approximately 5k miles. I certainly wouldn't run full throttle repeatedly to redline until I observed at least 3k; and preferably 4-5k, as mentioned.

Here are the pics as promised-

Exactly, you can do most harm to a new engine if you run it for short periods of time where it cannot warm up properly. If you extract most of its power, be sure that it has reached operating temperatures, this applies to engines of every age.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Yes I am very careful of that. Its funny, my office is only about a 5 minute drive from my house, so by the time I get there in the morning the water temp has warmed up and reached 175 on the gauge, but the oil temp needle has barely even moved. To compensate for this, I drive slowly for an extra couple of miles, and once the oil temp gauge reads over 220 then I go for a couple of quick blasts up and down the street (never exceeding 4200 RPM) before I park it at the office. That way it is always fully warmed up before I park it. Its a pain to do this but I want to be careful about the engine break in.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

5 minute commute.. you lucky bastard. Mines 30 minutes, and I'm pretty close to work... geology and people confound that. But, if the need arises, I can always blast up I-90 into the Cascades a few exits and back... it just wastes $4/gallon gasoline and takes an extra 10 minutes.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Geez, you Americans. Why don't you walk that distance?

    C'mon, he'd rather drive, and who wouldn't.

Nice car. Enjoy those thousands of miles you just "have" to put on it.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

If I walked that distance, it would take me about an hour and a half at least, one way. Thats 3 hours of walking in the rain I can do without? However, I would get good exercise on the 700 foot elevation change over the last mile.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

Actually, about once a week I do walk! Most of the time I do need to go somewhere from the office so I have to take the car.

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

wow, 5 minute, try 2 hours...

    Re: New Porsche! C2S

congrats 911freak, this looks like a keeper.
