    Chris Harris from Drivers Republic drives the Tesla Roadster....yes an electric "performance" car...

    Looks good to me. A bit pricey though and the weight for the brakes bothers me a bit.

    I wonder if the Periodic Table of the Elements has within it batteries which might someday weigh one half (one fifth? one tenth?) what they weigh now.

    If so, the electric performance car will be absolutely stunning.

    Lithium-Ion battery tech is improving about every 4-5 years.

    Right now, for vehicles, the limiting factor is not the weight per se (li-ion batteries are the lightest - hence why your celly battery weighs nothing) - it's the amount of power discharge and amperage!

    The amperage is so low, they have to stack thousands of cells in order to get the correct balance between power output and running time.

    The technology looks promising.

    ...$100K. Ouch. An Elise costs half as much. Also, I think that the addition of a small "get me home" diesel or petrol motor (like a small motor on a sailboat) would make the car plenty more practical for everyday use. As an occasional use vehicle, I could argue from the "green" point-of-view that a Porsche driven to similar mileage would contribute a negligible amount to overall atmospheric CO2 production. That said, I do welcome the development of electric car technology and look forward to even more exciting products to come.

    Interesting video. Thanx for sharing.

    I do believe that electric cars are the future, but it will probably take another 15 or more years for them to really become a viable option for the majority of people. The Tesla is more of a toy for rich eccentrics right now.

    But if one is concerned with polluting the planet, buying a new "environmentally friendly" car is probably the stupidest thing one can do. Producing that new car will probably cause much more pollution than driving around in a used/old car with a big, gas-guzzling V8.
