Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

Thought this was funny. Can't think of the word for it though. Trying to make objects "holy" or consecrating them by treating them soooooooo specially. I guess that's what we _do_.

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

    What a gimmick indeed.

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

    WTF,
    Makes me want to puke!
If anything ever will stop me from buying porsches or switch brands, this is it. Unnecessary low quality crap plastic made in china. Has nothing to do with the history of the brand. My guess is GM on this stuff is > 95%

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

Wait! I've seen that before! Is it a MIB item?

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

    i like p. desgin watches

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

Probably has something to do with the Blues Brothers' harmonica case:

I agree with you but please don't knock the Chinese "crap" I am sure your computer, TV, radio, mobile phone, Gap t-shirt (plenty of brands too including SWISS watches have parts made there too) come from China - not to mention things like Brembo brakes, Continental Teves Parts - the list is too long.

PS I make a great living shifting Chinese crap to your fellow Americans who are quite keen on it

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

I agree a 1000% about Chinese "crap" thing: no longer accurate. About ten years ago I noticed tools and other products from China were getting very good quality-wise. Today the quality of most all of the stuff produced there is pretty much equal to anything else. FWIW

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

I'll disagree on that. There is a fundamental disconnect in Chinese manufacturing ethics with the western countries, I think. Otherwise we would not have had pet food laced with chemicals because an ingredient manufacturer followed 'the accepted standard' there of doping the product to make the product score higher on certain 'content test' so they product could be sold for a higher profit (accepted industrial fraud in China?)... where that 'enhancing agent' ended up being toxic to the eventual end consumer (pets).

There is still a very wide range of quality that comes out of Chinese products and there's usually no way for a consumer to know if the processes making their product were well controlled and quality was achieved, or if maximum profit/minimum cost was the driver at the expense of quality, and what they have is indeed crap.

That the 'Made in China' tag is not part of the modes or embossed into the product, but usually stuck on with a cheap oval sticker speaks partly to that mentality, I think.

Things made in China can be very good, from the right plants, and if the company contracting the product is willing to put in the controls to make sure its good. But there's a lot of crap coming out of factories there as well.

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

why is anything made at China at all ?
low wages and high profit, that's why !

and if you want to increase your profit, what do you do?

make lower qualities, cheaper stuff, and make even more profit on them !

    it's all about money, remember?

Re: Go Out an Buy Yourself A Little Something

Everything you buy that's made in China supports the Communist regime there and that makes me sick. I try to buy from any other country than China whenever I can.
