    Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

Cool video, but how the Aston V8 Vantage managed to be the fastest, beating the GT2, Caterham and GT-R is beyond me...

    http://www.autocarmagazine.co.uk/VideosWallpapers/Videos.aspx?AR=234414&CT=V

The GT-R launch on wet grass is awesome, incredible traction

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

    Very interesting. Go V8 Vantage

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

Yeah. Makes you doubt the competence of the journalists when they don't flag up that odd result and investigate further. If the Vantage does indeed produce those impressive results, the viewers would like to know why :-)

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

The videos shown on the website are of a second set of runs done for the web especially I believe, in the wet.

In the official runs, the previous day, the DBS did beat the Vantage, albeit not by much 14.80 seconds vs 15.00 seconds dead.

The v8 ran 9.86 to 100, only lost it under braking as per autocar. Impressive time for the updated vantage.

    14.8 vs 15.00?

So the cars achieved better times on the second day, in the wet?

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

I think there is no way in the world that the Vantage is a faster car than a GT2. If there is a car that has a natural traction advantage, it is the Porsche.

There is a mistake in here somewhere.

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

To run 0-100-0 in 12.28 means 0-100 under 9.... in the wet? Maybe that V8 has the vantage RS V12 under the bonnet... Otherwise just no way.

Three words: severe driver factor. Obviously the two cars themselves are at different clases not even comparable, but the drivers... and why they didn't due several runs and changing drivers to make a minimally accurate asesment is beyond me, hence the results.

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

No the times i posted above are dry runs. The DBS winning slightly.

Again, in the dry, the GT2 was considerably quicker, posting a 12.15 including 0-100 in 7.86 seconds.

They also measured terminal speed after 1 mile. GT2 174. Vantage 159

Re-read what you wrote. You've posted dry run times, and the times are slower than the times posted in the video, which you say are wet runs.

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

    1) Vantage in video: 12.28
    2) Vantage time you've posted: 15.00

You're saying (1) is in the wet.

Marek, we will publish our video later today (GT-R vs Vantage vs 997 vs R8) and it will be clear that the Vantage could never be as quick as a GT2. It's certainly much better with the new 4.7 litre engine, but as I jumped from a 200 mile drive in the V8 Vantage into our long-term M3 Saloon, the M3 felt imediately quicker.

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

Steve, I don't like the sound of that because the 4,7 is one of the cars I am interested in. I wouldn't buy it for performance alone, I think Astons are about something else, but on the other hand I would be offended to find that a 4-door M3 is quicker.

    Re: Autocar TV: 0-100-0 (2008)

The run times I have quoted are direct from the magazine. All of the times recorded on the video differ slightly from the times quoted in the mag itself (which were performed on the same day, in the same conditions).

As far it being wet/damp, that is as per Steve Sutcliffe, the guy in the video.

In addition, the day before, the Lambo was slower than the GT2 in the dry.

For reference, a reader supplied his own Koenigsegg CCX, and they only managed 14.00 seconds (with a 8.76 100 time). They blamed poor throttle modulation, which made it difficult to get the power down.
