Wheel / Tire Warranty - USA
I'd like some anecdotal feedback on the need for tire and wheel warranties, or not, in the US.
In trying to get a basic $40/tire road hazard warranty for the tires coming on the car, and the winter rubber for the extra wheels, both to be delivered by the dealer in December, I asked the dealer about the availability of a tire warranty. This is what they came back with:
Deluxe Plan for 3, 4, or 5 years:
3: $1357, 4: 1431, 5: 1512,
with a $35 allowance (deductible) per tire/wheel repair
The dealer asked if that could be applied to multiple sets, and the answer was "no" - resumably only the tires delivered with the car are covered.
So that begs the question, does one really need to buy wheel road hazard warranties? Other than a hidden pot hole, I see no danger to the wheel. I'm more concerned about a nail or screw on the highway that destroys a tire, but they are not offering the $40/tire roadhazard you might get from a place like tirerack, but rather a time limited whole-wheel warranty.
Thoughts?
Otherwise, I may just be SOL and have to wait with a warranty for the replacement tires, when those become necessary.
