997S PDK Cabriolet mk2 test-drive, all weekend !!!
I dont know where to start, seriously, this 911 has to be THE best 911 ever produced !!!
Yesterday (Friday) got the keys and wont have to return them untill Monday, in fact tomorrow I have already planned a nice mountain drive, outside the city...
Been driving the car for about 300kms (more kms tomorrow though ), and if the exterior modifications are not THAT BIG (I would say minor to the eye, except for rennteamers ) the thing that ONLY counts is the PDK, and of course THE engine in its entire definition....I dont know what exact changes porsche has done to that engine, but its something different, may be its the pdk, that makes the facelift so special, SPECIALLY WITH THE SPORT CHRONO PLUS SWITCHED ON, is VERY different to a 997Smk1 tiptronic S (and I can guarantee this, as we have already had 3 997S mk1 equipped with tiptronic S, one of them a 9974S......
Instantly just when you start the engine, it sounds different, may be more refined, specially the ignition sound when turning the key, BUT DEFINATELY HAS A METALLIC SOUND, IN ALL THE RPM'S RANGE. Its a metallic sound mixed with the classic flat six porsche sound.....
Also I would say that ordering the facelift without the sport chrono plus option, would be a big mistake, probably the same as not ordering one with the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE)...
The best way to describe the sport chrono plus button is like a "drug", you press that thing once, and EVERYTHING CHANGES, the car turns completely C-R-A-Z-Y, entering in curves will downshift to second gear very easily, but even more down to FIRST GEAR, and feeling a nice heel&toe....switching into gears from 4.000rpm up to the red zone will simply hit your back into the seat everytime you press pdk ... its intoxicating and so so quick, its not even funny, seriously, is something to have in mind, before you do something with this car
Overall this car is the best sportscar I have ever driven in my life, the best thing of this car is the great response, the engine sound at all revvs (I dont understand why people say its more quiet a low revvs, it didnt felt like that), and of course the pdk....
7th gear is like putting the engine into idle, you can go at 75kph at 1.200rpm in 7th gear, and watch how fuel consumption decreases....
Also when you switch on sport chrono plus, each time you change of gear, you can listen an amazing sound, very difficult to explain (at least for me, in english), but its like a "gas" little explosion sound......similar when you open a new tennis ball box, that sound appears every time you change of gear in sport plus mode, specially from first to second !!...
Led lights look very nice, but its something that I dont pay too much attention.
PDK PADDLES !......In my opinion they are IN EXCELLENT POSITION, YOU HAVE THE CONTROL OF THE WHOLE CAR with your own hands, very sporty feeling and very practical.....personally I had no problems adapting myself to the paddles....
I simply cannot imagine this car equipped with PSE, must be a dream come true....stock sound is perfect, so PSE cant imagine what the hell would do........
This unit had the ventilated front seats, (1.200 Euro option), its a very nice gadget, you easily notice the effects, but imo its not wort the money....I would rather spend those 1200euros for petrol.
Also as this is the cabriolet version, porsche has improved the process of moving the roof, by not using your hands to press, for closing the roof....now pressing the button is the only thing you need to do...
Anyway some pics I took.
btw, we are ordering one for January, probably in white colour, with PDK, PSE, sportchrono plus, and may be the backet sport seats.
For me, the best car I have ever driven...poor Ferrari's, R8's, M3's, Lambo's... ....although the only downside of the Carrera S mk2, is the price, with some little options you easily go to the GT3 price range, very easily.
Seriously I thought it wasnt going to be that impressive, but the facelift is not in the exterior, is in the interior for sure..
Bravo Ferdinand !!!!
