Dark Grey Natural Leather pics request (Interior)

I was wondering what is the exact difference between the two grey interiors offered by Porsche.

I understand Dark Grey is, as the name implies, darker....but how much?

Please post pics if you have so I'll be able to make myself an idea of what shade of grey "Darker Grey" actually is.

    Thanks in advance

Wonderful combos, the first being my choice for the next car

    Thanks for the pics

I'm trying out different configurations..... like:

    GT Silver
    Dark Grey Leather
Alcantara interior (wheel, pack and gear etc.)
    Carb central tunnel
Carb "turbo badge" under the doors (i dont know how to say it with the proper word ahah)

    Red instruments

yeah sort of thanks for sharing....

Re: Dark Grey Natural Leather pics request (Interi

I had Natural Grey on my old Boxster S and I paid quite a premium to get it. It looked fantastic. However it's almost identical to black full leather. You should compare the two side by side and save some money by going with black. My C2S has black full leather and it's pretty hard to tell the difference. Use the saved money for more useful options or take a vacation.

it's the "atlas grey" of interiors...

    Differences in leather quality

My understanding (Dan can add his knowledge here) is that the leather used by Porsche is painted to a color (i.e. black) and the color eventually wears off.

In the natural leathers (brown & gray) the leather is dyed all the way through with the color. So when it wears it ages rather than looking scuffed.

My next 911 will have natural leather for sure even if I have to nix Bose and SC and fancy wheels, etc to make it happen.

    Re: Differences in leather quality

the natural leather option is aniline (drum) dyed, the smooth leather option is semi-aniline, and the std. leather is pigmented (spray) dyed.

Most leather in cars is painted. My experience is that it usually wears well and it can easily be repaired.

What is the situation with aniline dyed? Is the color in the thickness? How does it handle water? How does it handle dirt and how is it cleaned?

Very interesting Le Chef, I didnt know about this difference

    Re: Differences in leather quality

The aniline is softer and develops a patina over time. The color is absorbed through the skin. Because it is more "breathable" than other leathers, water and dirt are also absorbed more easily. A leather soap (cleaner) and conditioner 4 times/yr. should do the trick.

This pics. shows perfectly cleaned and conditioned leather (Natural grey) with nice patina (996). Quolity leather (and Denim) looks at its best after some time.

There are only two types of Porsche [real] leather, not three:

    Natural leather
    Dark Grey
    Brown
    Carrera red

    Smooth leather
    Black
    Stone grey
    Ocean blue
    Sand beige
    terracotta (special colour)
    Cocoa (special colour)

The third one (PCNA calls this Std leather and Europeans calls it Partial leather) is actually vinyl:
    Black
    Stone grey
    Ocean blue
    Sand beige

    Re: Differences in leather quality

I believe std. leather has leather seating surfaces and vinyl bolsters, at least here in NA.

    Re: Differences in leather quality

There's nothing wrong with synthetics on the non-contact/wear surfaces; the bits in my current car have held up great over 14 years and counting.
