Apparently some quality issues have been seen with the new rear light clusters leaking water / condensation.
If you get to Silverstone check out the 'track' cars which are constantly getting wet / washed .... enough leaky units there to suggest all is not quite right. :-(

Many of those cars for such events are often pre-production launch cars.
Remember that 997.2 production started in April 2008, whereas customer cars started being built much later in July.

Something to watch for on UK customer cars being delivered next week. Keep them outside in the rain and wash them often.

If leaky tail lights is the only problem I've got to worry about, I'll be very happy... as that is an easy problem to fix by just designing a new seal and/or lense and getting it replaced.. Porsche will be able to lick that quickly. When my Targa 4 shows up in December here in Seattle, I'll definitely get to test its waterproofness as we are then in the rainy season!

I thought that the rainy season was all year round in the Pacific Northwest

Quote:Very good point . If someone has decided to go for a 997 then it's useless to think that the first cars produced might be having problems. I am not saying it is impossible for those cars to have problems, I am just trying to say that the same cars have been tested over and over again for at least a couple of years before they're out to the road and the market. The risk can be of course minimized with the 2 year warranty as reginos pointed out.

Ideally somebody should wait, and I thought about it too much before ordering.
But life is short and it can become even shorter, so my motto is "something you can do today, you might not be able to do tomorrow".
There is a 2 year warranty anyway, and I intend to buy the extended warranty after it expires.
