    Hard clutch operation

    My Carrera S has 22 k miles on it. The clutch pedal is considerably harder than on other (non-Porsche) cars I have recently driven (,but it didn't get like that suddenly). My dealer tells me that it might be a sympton of a clutch going bad soon. I was really surprised as there is no indication of any clutch slipping, even in stop and go traffic. Do you think this is really going to happen? Is there a fix that could make the clutch lighter without having to remove the engine for clutch overhaul?

    The C2S clutch is self-adjusting so AFAIK you won't realise that it is getting worn or that the biting point is changing. Interestingly the 997TT clutch is very very light.

    Ask your dealer to try other 997's to see if they are different from yours. If it's not then you may need to reconsider.

    The clutch on the S is self-adjusting so won;t get progressively harder over time.

    Mine feels as light as a Honda Civic's but I don't know what you're comparing yours too.

    From my Technik Introduction Manual it seems Porsche put a large amount of effort in making the S's self-adjusting clutch have the required amount of pedal pressure remain _constant_ throughout the service life of the clutch. IOW, wear adjustment is a feature of the S system.

    Unless your clutch is obviously slipping and about to self-jettison, IMO, (from reading the TI manual) it seems there's no way your situation indicates serious clutch wear.

    Yes, the TT clutch is hydraulically assisted (standard equipment). AFAIK, the NA cars are not.

    As many are stating here the 997S' clutch is self-adjusting and its weight should not change. Your dealer is confusing it with other clutches like 996's.

    Have you been replacing the brake/clutch fluid every 2 years as recommended?

    It might. In any case you need your dealer look into it. Make sure the mechanic is qualified.

    Fluid exchange is recommonded every 2 years. However, I don't know whether it will help your situation.

    Do like I did - wait until you get your RMS failure. Then, when everything is out, tell them to bang in a new clutch... and you get the labour on warranty.

    Apart from the hard clutch, I had two peculiar occurances (although almost a year ago). At a track day, I was doing a spirited start from standstill. The clutch pedal got stuck to the floor for about half a second after I released my left foot. Did anybody have this happen? Does the clutch linkage require lubrication or is it purely hydraulic on the Carrera S?

    This is a long shot guess but you sure it didn't get caught on the floor mat? I had an extra matt in the footwell of my other car (trying to color coordinate ) and somehow it hooked the pedal.

    Rather unlikely. I have OEM Porsche mats and they do not tend to shift around.

    I suspect you have air bubbles in the brake/clutch fluid. Remember my asking if you had done the fluid service?

    Also... if you track the car, you must service/bleed the system more often.
