How many of you cover your car while it is inside?

Just curious. Also please include which cover you have, where you got it and any positive or negative comments, if you remember. I have been shopping around for covers and am torn between several (Coverking Satin Stretch, Covercraft Form Fit, or Covercraft Dustop). Any experience with any of these or other recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

Never inside. When I travel, if the car is clean and makes sense I may cover it - I have a light all-weather cover.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I only cover mine after washing and don't plan driving it in the next few days. Covercraft form fit. Stays covered during winter storage as well.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I cover mine if some service guy's coming over to do work on the house. You never know if he's a meth addict or hangs with meth addicts.

Nevertheless I was standing there one time and one of the workers felt he had a right to pull one of my covers partially off to see what was under it. UN-freekin-real!

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is inside?

Pleased with Covercraft Form Fit. Only use when car is just washed. Had it 2 years and haven't washed the cover yet. Doesn't leave any scratches in black finish, very soft inner liner keeps finish well protected. The key is to only use on a perfectly clean car, that way the cover won't pick up any abrasive dirt/dust etc. that can harm finish.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

Ditto on the Cover Craft form-fit. I used one on my 2006 C2S for a year, but had to purchase another because of the wing on the TT.

Good idea - sounds like the optional cable & lock is not a bad idea - to keep the nosy ones out if I am NOT standing there...

Good points. I never cover my cars so I can leave without the hassle. Never felt comfortable with the possibility of any grit get caught and subsequently abrading the surface.

Also, when need be, I keep the least exciting car outside and all garage windows covered and doors to the garage locked and the electric garage door openers switched off. (I have a master switch in the garage for this purpose only that controls the outlets that the GDO are plugged into) AND the quick disconnects are disabled..

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I guess I messed up the polling question. Oh well, thanks for your input anyway.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

No, If the car is not perfectly clean, the act of cover-uncovering is like light sand papering.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

Cover it only over winter. Of course only after having it cleaned thoroughly.

Have the Porsche OEM indoor cover which was a gift from the dealer.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I used to cover the 987 all the time, it's a PITA after waxing/polishing. I will not cover the 997. Heard to many horror stories about getting scratches from the tight fit. I have the Porsche OEM indoor and outdoor cover.

People are like kids at Christmas. That's why parents have to hide presents I guess.

HaHa. Yeah, couldda been just an instinct and not a malicious thing. Required a huge narcissistic ego (or whatever) to do something like that IMO. Oh well... .

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

Cover it with the Porsche OEM cover most of the time when I'm going to be away for more than a week and only if the car is thoroughly clean.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I always use covers for winter storage. In the past I used covercraft exclusively, then I bought one that didn't fit properly. Covercraft made me jump through a bunch of hoops before they modified the cover for me. I now use the porsche cover. The fit is pretty snug, but I'm happy with it overall.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

After every drive I synthetic chamois the car and cover it with an Evolution cover from carcover.com and then plug the Porsche battery charger in.. Always have done that with cars that are only weekend drivers

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

I don't even put the top up when I park in the garage.

OMG! Are you nutz? You're letting all that "new car smell" dissipate! (kidding )

The consensus seems to be a cover "requires" the use of a california duster and the car should be recently washed. Even so every time you put it on you scratch the paint. Can't see it with lighter colors but we have soft paint and it scratches; darker colors are depressing that way.

Huccum Porsche can't apply that hard "ceramic" (?) clear coating like Ferarri does? Would you pay for it as an option?

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

Use Porsche OEM cover only when car is clean and planning to not drive for a few days.

Re: How many of you cover your car while it is ins

It really depends upon what your car is SHARING the garage with. Wife's car, kids toys? A cover can be a line of defense, and keep the car clean if the garage door is always up.

In my new house I've got a secure one-car garage in the pool house that is also air conditioned. So, no need for a cover ever...
