    2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

I haven't received my 2009 Cayenne yet, but I'm thinking of ways to improve it's performance. I ordered the base Cayenne and added almost $25k (US) to it in options. The base prices for the Cayennes here in Japan are about $15-20k (US) more then the prices in the US.

    Anyway, back to my question...
Is there any (easy) way to boost the HP from the stock 290?

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

Consider supercharging, but the best option would have been to spend the extra money on a higher model rather than frivolous options.

Many options are standard on the S/Turbo anyway.

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

As Tom stated, why spend 25K on options rather than stepping up to the Cayenne S or spending a bit more for the GTS?
Even with its HP improvements the base Cayenne is under-powered for its weight.

The only difference between options on the S and the V6 is "Auto Air-Conditioner" ... an $800 option. Of course the V8 vs V6 is the big thing, but the price difference between the two models is over $20,000. ($72,000 vs $94,000).

The GTS is $110,000. Add moon roof and xeon head lights and your just under $120,000. I really like it, really want it, but it's over what I'm willing to pay right now.

    The Turbo is $130,000...

My Cayenne is $91,000 with all the options I've added. I would just like to up the power a little if possible.

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

I actually drove the new V6 on the track at the Porsche Driving Experience and was quite impressed with the car. Handling and power. Conditions where wet and some of the Caymans an 911s where struggeling a bit with the conditions. If I was in the market for a Cayenne I guess I would go for the V6. For driving conditions where I live it has enough power as it is. I rather spend the money on a sportscar or a boat than on a SUV.

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

edit on prices above... checked the official list.

My ordered Cayenne V6 - $93,300 US (just added all leather interior)

    Base Cayenne - $71,800 US
    Base Cayenne S - $97,000 US
Base GTS - $110,700 US (no sports design package included in price, must add over $5,000 for that option)
    Base Turbo - $147,300 US
    Base Turbo S - $175,000 US

Also, besides Auto Airconditioner, the S also has upgraded wheels standard. But that is still over $25,000 US more for the V8.

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

The MkII V6 I tried left me very satisfied for real road use, though it can feel a bit heavy on initial acceleration.

OK it is not a car to go fast and race others on the highway, but is this the objective of an SUV? The Turbo is super fast but drinks a lot when you press it. The V8 is also more expensive to buy and to run for little more pace.

If I wanted a Porsche SUV, considering everything, I would have chosen the V6 myself, too.

the secondary cat bypass adds a bit. there is stuff on other forums.

You need to actually drive and own one of these to understand that the base is still under-powered. I'd dump the full leather interior and get the base Cayenne S. The leather isn't going to make you go faster.

Maybe you are correct because my comments are based on limited casual use of the V6.

On the second point I agree 100%. If somebody operates within a budget, it is better to spend the money on engineering rather than cosmetic options .

Re: 2009 Cayenne V6 HP Upgrade

Considering that I live in a country where the average car engine size is between 600cc and 1800cc, I think the V6 in the Cayenne will be enough for me (at least for now). I'm just wanting to up the HP from 290 to somewhere over 300.... Any ideas?

Not to be rude, but 'you made a mistake' comments arnt helping, just looking for some type of upgrade advice.
