2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

I went in to my dealer to finalize my order for my 2009 and there is no mention of an Aero Kit. Because I track a lot and have heard this kit provides extra down force i wanted to get it plus I like the looks.

Anyone know anything about when and if the GT3 style Aero Kit will be available for the new 2009 Carrera S?

Here is the car I ordered
    Guards Red
Black Sport Seats (looking for somethign a little more supportive than stock)
    PDK
    -20mm PASM Sport Suspension
    LSD
    Sport Chrono Plus
    Rear Center Console Painted Red
    Red Seat Belts
    Wheel Caps with Colored Crest

The last 3 options are for the wife. I did not order Bose or Navigation or any other luxury items. I just want more of a sports styled car.

    Thoughts and opinions?!?!?!

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

Choose Bucket seats(P03) instead of Sport seats(P77). They are much better for track as well.

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

Kreso, I would love to have the bucket version of the Sport seats but I am 6'5" tall and do not fit in them. I got to sit in a GT2 yesterday at my dealer that had the P03 Sport Buckets and the issue is:
1- Sport Buckets mounting system to the floor is much higher than stock manual or electric so I have no head room for my helmet. My head is less than .5" away from the roof side bar where the window goes up

2- Sport Buckets are not wide enough at the hips and I am slender but still can not get my hip bones in these seats

3- Sport Buckets do not lift or lower on a manual pump like the stock seats do and my short wife did not fit in the car properly

4- Sport Buckets have no recline back angle adjustment and my wife did not feel she was upright enough and due to my height I could use a little backwards seat back angle.

5- the Sport Bucket seat mounting bracket do not allow the seat to go back as far as the stock seats and that causes my knees to be touching the bottom of the dash and in the way of the steering wheel.

So I ordered regular sport seats because they look to be a little more suportive than stock seats. I plan on a harness or roll bar and there is a Sparco seat that will accept a 5/6 point harness I fit into very well.

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

It is common for aerokit to be unavailable for a brief period following the facelift, as the GT3 usually gets a facelift as well and recieves a slighty different wing/skirt/bumper design.

The aerokit for Aarrera models follows suit a few months before the new GT3 is released.

For example, the MK1 996 GT3 had a taco style wing- which was featured on the Carrera Aerokit 1.

After the facelift for all the models, the new Aerokit cup II was released and looked identical to NEW GT3 parts.

You can always add the aerokit after the fact, although it is more expensive and painting is always difficult... or you can delay your order...

As for navigation, this is a very useful option and does not add that much weight to the car as the rest of the hardware is already there. namely the screen and wires/etc. it is only a module that enables navi that you are really adding.

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

I had Nav in my 2006 Carrera S Cab and found it hard to use compared to my portable Garmin. The Garin found local resturants and businesses. Until these car manufactures team up with Garmin, Magelen, Tomo Tom and just put there reliable, accurate and easy to use systems in cars I will never buy another car with the factoruy Nav.

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

Well, there is 'hope' with the 09 models and the new com and nav system. First, the touchscreen should make it easier to use.. easier still (I hope) with the voice interface.

Then with the xm option, one can get xm's navtraffic service, which comes from navteq, which supplies the data to many of the addon-dashboard mount providers, I believe.

Now, the theory, on my part, is that it is possible at some point to update that hard-drive based mapping/navigation system data via CD/DVDs (a patch disk into the player) or you could get data patches or data feeds over the XM radio digital link.

But its all up to the manufacturer and data providers to play nice and provide this service. I've got plenty of hardware that has update interfaces that never ended up getting used (eg theater receivers with RS232C ports, but never got firmware upgrades to support new formats/features)

Having that digital download stream at least available, means it is technically possible. Whether the hardware is designed to take advantage of it, and the software configured for it now ( or upgraded to do so in the future) remains to be seen. I'm taking a chance on the new nav system. Given that its less likely to get stolen (quite common where I live) compared to a dash mounted unit (even if hidden and unmounted due to the visible mount or mount marks with those).... and the hardest time I have is finding any address the first time in Seattle, due to an insane street numbering convention... I'm hopefull.

Re: 2009 Aero Kit for Carrera S and my Order

Minok, I'd just never ever use all that in my Porsche. I am more into the sporting side of Porsche and love to just clear my mind and drive, especially at the track!
