    Red Exclamation Mark !

    hello again,

I just replaced my wheels with new rinspeed wheels, however i didnt install the factory TPMS sensors from the oem to my new wheels.

I get the new wheels reading on the on-board display, but the red exclamation is always on (single exclamtion in red like this ! )

I was told that the red exclamation is due to something other than the TPMS problem, and that the TPMS warning light should be yellow rather than red.

is this true? I could live with the red exclamation, but only if i was sure that its because of the new wheels and no other major problem.

    any help would be appreciated.

    thanx

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

You have to install the sensors as well, the ! goes along with the error light. You need new sensors, run about 500$ or use your old ones.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

There has to be a way to shut off the TPMS. It was very easy on Audi to have the dealer so it or to do it yourself with with a OBDII cable and a program called VAG-COM. It seems worth turning off, in my opinion.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

Just curious, why didn't you install the TPMS sensors in your new wheels?

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

so let me see if i got this correct ...the "red" exclamation is no big deal? and its due to the TPMS?

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

I didnt install because the porsche service dep over here is crap and i was afraid they would mess up my wheels in their process of trial and error.
they also had trouble installing the factory spacers!! they put the 17mm and then tried to fit the 5mm ontop of them!!.

so thats where I decided i had enough and just asked for the car back in 1 piece.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

Hmmm, the sensors are a peice of cake to install, no issue there. But,there is no way to shut it off reliably.
Your choices are to ignore it or have sensors put in and rest your system.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

go into menu and check notices....it should tell you what the warning is about

I clicked on "info" then it just told me the same thing "wheel replacment"

if thats the case im gona take it to tire shop and see if they can put in the sensors.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

My local tire shop, a very "run of the mill" tire shop installed my Dymags and swapped the tpms from the factory rims to the Dymags with no issues.

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

i couldnt live with continious prompt, or the black tape option....in recent printing of my ecu i noticed it gave an anticipated remaining battery life of 64/65 months on the sensors.

It can be shut off but you have to go to the dealer to do so. Search "disable TPMS" over at rennlist.com and look for posts by Mooty - he describes the process. Couldn't attach the link but here's a cut and paste of the procedure:
1: First you must actually disconnect the TPMS control unit so that the CAN Controller does not continue to recognize it. The control unit is located in the front trunk next to brake fluid reservoir. Remove and unplug the dome light on the cowling plastic. Remove all of the screws that hold this entire plastic panel in. There are a good number on top by the seal and one on each side by the bottom.

2: Now unplug the control unit it is part number 997 618 103 06, Do not remove it. This way you can always just plug it back it and use it again.

    3. Reassemble the front trunk again.

    4. Hook up the PIWIS tester to the car via the OBD2 port and do a complete check of all the control units.

    5. Select "Gateway" and then "Coding" then ""Required Control Units List". This will list all installed CAN units.

    6. Now select "Tire Pressure Monitoring System" and change to " Not Installed" and code it, then exit to the main screen again.

The next steps will code your instrument cluster and to do so will require that you have your engine number, so have it handy, you will find out why.

    7. Select "Instrument Cluster" and then "Coding" then "Vehicle Variants".

    8. Now select your "Model Year" then "Model", "Roof Version", "Country" (02 is for USA, Puerto Rico). The next item will be "Versions" (553 is USA/Canada).

    9. Select your "Individual and exclusive equipment" by highlighting each item that would apply such as: 454-Cruise, 023-Silver Colored Gauge faces etc. DO NOT select 423/483 TPM!!!! This is the TPMS for the cluster and must not be highlighted.

    10. Move to the next screen and finish the "Audio and Communication " by highlighting what applies to your car.

    11. Next will be the "Wheel Size" and finally it will ask about your engine number.

    12. Proceed forward and then Code with F8.

That's it and now TPMS is removed.

If i have to do all that then i prefer come back to the parking (joke)

    Re: Red Exclamation Mark !

Either you disable the TPMS or install the sensors, otherwise you have essentially disabled the warning system for other problems that may occur. You'd want to be warned about a failing brake system wouldn't you?

I don't have sensors on my track wheels and last time I used them the warning lights came on as usual and then after a while they all disappeared for a very long time. I wanted to see how is that possible and to experiment I left the wheels on for several days and the warning lights would come on everytime the engine is turned on then they would go away during driving. a couple of times they came back for a short while and then disappeared again. could the car be picking up other car's sensors?

Are you seeing pressure readings for each tire or just the bars for each of the tires. Highly unlikely you're picking up other car's sensors - you'd see pressures if that was the case...and you'd have to be pretty close to the other car.

no pressure reading and no warnings either. it is not consistent though, the warning comes and goes but stays off much longer than on.
