    crack engine belt

I just have my engine belt and bearings replace on my C2S after driving 60,000 Km after 3 years. I am just wondering if anyone else experience the same OPD said it is not cover under warranty and it is just regular wear and tear...

    Re: crack engine belt

Belt? OK. But engine bearings? Do you mean crankshaft bearings?

    Re: crack engine belt

oh ya, adais, it maybe crankshaft bearings... i have to double check on that. I thought the belt will last longer than 3 years.

    Re: crack engine belt

Bearings for alternator or other bolt-on components which the belt bears against in it's rotation?

BTW, I don't think that's "regular wear and tear." There is nothing "subjective" about it; IOW, you as the driver can't age the belt more than someone else can because your driving habits are different/bad. Turn engine on, drive, and that's it; belt should be covered, IMO.

I doubt it is crankshaft bearings. If it is, you have some major engine rebuild. Most probably are pulley bearings outside the engine and that may indicate extra belt tension, which could explain the belt's abnormal wear.

Same here, my drive belt had to be replaced after just 14.000km after 1.5 years and was not covered under warranty. They claimed that this can happen if small stones find their way into the engine compartment that could do small damages to the belt. Huh?, that's complete BS I have around 180.000km on 911s now and that never happened before.
I noticed it when I refilled the oil. Only 2/3 of the belt's width was left and the rest had already been torn to shreds.
They checked that the pulleys were correctly mounted and did not have burrs. The new belt now has 10.000km after 1.5 years and no sign of wear so far. Must have been a manufacturing error on the fist one that should have been covered under warranty or at least goodwill.

Sounds like misalignment, or manufacturing defect.

    Small stones? Yeah..., riiiiight.

They should just keep their mouths shut, avoid guessing and say, "We don't know."

    Re: crack engine belt

I think belts fall in the category of consumables - wiper blades, brake pads, etc. and aren't warrantied.
