Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

Lets see: no high tech AWD system, no Japanese drivers, no racing tires... performance cars must really be getting faster.

I thought they were claiming around 7:25 for that?

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

So ZR1 is slower than GT-R?

Tadge J. Juechter, Corvette's chief engineer, announced this morning that Jim Mero, GM's development engineer, drove the ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:26.4.

If an engineer can lap the Ring in 7:26, imagine what the car would do in the hands of HVS!

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

That's impressive, it really is. Don't like the look of this one either.

GM always says crazy things like that. When the laptime for the Z06 was set, they claimed it was set by David Hill, project Director. He certainly wasn't the driver back then...

I have lost faith in Nissan since they announced the 7:38 with their so called stockish GTR

The 7:25 was timed by a bystander and it was the V-Spec.

I think that David Hill's lap was run this year as an individual not as a GM employee. I imagine that his time can easily be challenged by a professional driver.

I thought the time attributed to Dave Hill WAS set by a pro driver (Jan Magnussen or someone), even though the press release said Dave set it...

This is perfectly tenable. The car has over 600HP and weighs a little over 3,000 pounds, so what's all the consternation here?

It was Magnussen. FWIW, the GT-R times was 7.29 so the Z1 beats it.

Alan, I doubt HvS can even come close to this time. It just is not in his DNA.

Turbo Al, the consternation is that an America car has beaten the Supercars of Europe. That cannot be.

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

The ZR1 time is with the standard Michelin run-flat tires also, which is even more impressive . Not Pilot Sport Cups ( which send you sideways if there is even a drop of spit on the road ) ) like some brands use at the Ring.

Absolutely. I have no trouble believing this time, if the car is driven by a good driver. Lightweight, gobs of torque, 600+ bhp and good tyres. Much more believable than the fantastic flying pig which Nissan has tried selling us.

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

If I had to choose, i'd rather own the GTR over this ugly beast. The ZR1 is a poorman's superman. GM craftsmanship is at Hyundai level imo.

Note that these are PS2 ZP (for zero pressure runflats) to boot...

Th ZR1 has a magne-ride suspension - the same exact shocks I have in my '08 C6 - not tweaked - the same. This suspension is top notch.

Not so sure about that. Those GTR numbers are going to be non-reproducible in true stock form.

The ZR1 is definitely the blue collar supercar, but it will be reliable, it will have a 6-speed manual and rear-wheel drive and will weigh nearly 1,000 pounds less than the GTR: Translation-more fun.

I won't get a ZR1 (tuned 993TT, tuned 996TT and tuned Noble M400, plus an RS4 winter-beater with some "tweaks" coming to keep me busy), but if I had only $100K to spend on a car and no other car to blast around in, then I would call my local Chevy dealer to get on a list.

Having sat in a Nissan Z and an Infiniti FX at a car show a couple years ago, they were not much different in materials quality than a "better" GM product product .Neither manufacturer would cause Audi's interior fit and finish people to lose any sleep.
If you think the GT-R is a beaut, you've already wasted too much of your young life in front of a Playstation

Why be a hater? The ZR-1 IS an amazing car, especially considering the cost. I'd say drive one before making such a conclusion. I know that I would jump at the opportunity to do so.

At nearly $130,000 incl taxes out the door, I'd hardly call the ZR1 a poor man's car .And that's before the current markup of $20K plus that most dealers are charging .On this board, it's like calling all us Porsche 911 Turbo owners " poor ". BTW, what do you drive - a Veyron ?

Here are a couple pics that were taken by someone else at local car show here in Palo Alto last Sunday :

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

Wow.. didn't realize how much the ZR1 costs over the standard Vette. Definitely not a poorman's car at that price but who would be crazy enough to spend that much on a Vette? The GTR is by far a better bargain with better craftsmanship. I don't mind the exterior as much but the interior is cheap and poorly designed.

You just added insult to the injury... 1st you deride it as a poor man's car as you thought it was not pricy enough, then you change your mind and you state that it's not worth it. Look, I owned Porsches (and may own more in the future) and now I drive a stunning '08 C6 and consider it along the 911 one of the iconic sports cars in this world. Its interior is actually very ergonomic, if you try it. I am not ashamed to drive this fantastic car, just because others, with a net-worth far lower than mine, can afford it too.

the ZR-1 can lap the 'ring in 7 minutes flat, AND I WON'T BE BUYING IT...

That's a bit harsh, isn't it? Despite ADias trying to prove to everyone that the C6 is a great car, it actually IS a great car . Point well taken about the price, but it might have a good collector's value in several decades.

Re: Here we go again: ZR1 - 7:26.4 at Nur

It is cool car... What they missed in it is Couple cool racing seats (Why put same seats that come in regular C6,Z06, which is not really supportive) and few other special touches... And this car would be much more special!!!

    Somthing like this

Wow, look at that. The Chevrolet has 113 problems/100 cars and the Nissan has 124 problems/100 cars.

Put some sunglasses on, I think you're blinded by badges.
