Order now and you will have the car before Xmas.....

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

Order now from Hatfield & you'll get it in October.

Discounts are not available in UK as most dealers are owned by Porsche. I was told any dealer offing discount on new car will lose their franchise. Demo or used cars are different. I may be tempted by a resonable spec demo car at some point, but I think the dealers need to suffer a little more before I'll be willing to do a deal.

Zero discounts in Japan. The dealer may throw in free car coating and a key chain. or give you max value for a trade in but generally zero discount on brand new cars.

    Hey There 550

Actually, I think that Japan offers the BIGGEST discounts in the world. I got a brand new 997 4 months after it first was introduced in Japan with a JPY 650,000 discount, my friend got JPY 900,000 last year and this year I have been offered JPY 1.5 million on a 3.6 Tiptronic car! Let me know if you want to change - I promise you my dealer will take good care of you. Another mate, is getting a 3.6 Cayenne with a JPY 300,000 discount - plus a few freebies AND this is the ONLY P car you have a major waiting list for in Japan! It is easier to get a 997 GT3 here. Of course, if you got to Porsche Meguro, Ginza or Setagaya you cannot expect even a cup of tea!

Oh, and I have been promised a good trade in price for my car PLUS a discount of at least 500,000 on a 997 Mk2

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

I ordered a 911 with PDK, etc. three weeks ago, i.e., before the new MSRP had been released.
The best discount I was able to get for a 911FL, delivery Nov 08, was 50% off the difference between the 2008 and 2009 MY base prices and additional 3% off the total MSRP. (NM, USA)

    Discount on Targa 4

As others have said, it depends on where you live, what the market there is like, the proximity of other dealers, and local demand.

In my area, there are several dealers in a 200mi radius.
Wanting to order a Targa 4, for which the coming allocations are sparse, makes it a bit trickier for me. The local dealer only had a Targa4S allocation, so he would have to trade, and was only willing, after me pushing, to give $1000 off of MSRP for looking for a Targa 4... so I passed on that.

I went with a more distant dealer. We agreed on 3% off of MSRP, and they have a Targa 4 build allocation for late this year. Additionally, I'm saving about $700 on sales taxes as the local tax rate there is lower than where I live, so my total savings (taking out the delivery service fees) will be about 3% + $450 in savings. On a $106,000 car, thats about $3900, which will partly fund some nice new speakers for the home theater.

I'm glad us in the US are somewhat shielded by the insane drop in value of the US$, given these cars are built partly in Euro's (I'm sure Porsche maintains dollar accounts, and does some dollar hedging to offset such currency issues, but they still have to pay their factory workers in Euro's)

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

I'm about to pull the trigger on a FL 997 and need to quickly figure out a reasonable discount for the West Coast USA. A local dealer is offering 1.5% off and I think it should be 5% or about $4000 off the $85000 price. Any suggestions for dealers with allocation that are willing to deal on the West Coast?

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

I was qouted 4.5% off an ordered 997.2 C2S. My only problem now is if I want a 997.2 turbo. My dealer is small, I have done a lot of business with them and I had to work very hard to get that.

Interesting! I would not expect that in that market - maybe P-cars are not selling so well theses days even in a hot market.

5% are always possible in Germany, maybe more if the car is in stock. Some dealers over here even have problems selling the FL cars, simply because the demand for the 911 has dropped. It is much worse with the Cayenne though.
Germany is maybe a bad example because even "rich" people over here are sometimes buying cars judging by the fuel consumption and of course the "social appearance".
My local Porsche dealer has serious problems to sell Porsche cars in a typical "worker town" with a pretty low number of academics.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

The USA is always lucky, wealthiest country in the world and Ps cost 40% than the UK. The only redeeming feature is that with the 10% fall of the GBP over the last 2 years we are now technically cheaper than continental Europe. On the other hand, residuals are so low that we British are still the major losers in this game (we never win...).

Thankfully I purchased my nearly new 997S in Germany (LHD) in Euros for Pounds9.500 less than UK new, and now I could ship it back to Germany to get back Euros (probably E55.000). All in all, a damn good deal (but just luck)!

There are always discounts in Germany, I even got a 3% discount on a Cayenne GTS in December when the car was brand new and would have pushed for more if I was going to buy it.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

I found the dealers within 200 miles of Boston on the Porsche website and then emailed 30 of them asking for their best deal. I also explained that I was willing to travel for a good deal just like I had done when I bought my 2001 Boxster S in Cleveland in order to save $4500. Back in 2001, Boxsters were smokin' hot and no one in the Boston area was giving an inch. They were so scarce that only one of the 5 local dealers had a Boxster in stock to test drive. Luckily, I found someone on PPBB who had gotten a deal in Cleveland and I asked for the same and got it - $4500 (7%) off MSRP and a plane ticket to Cleveland.

This time, I didn't venture quite as far from home with my inquiries, but didn't have to. Out of the 30 emails I sent, I got 20 or so responses. Most said, "Sorry, no discount", but one said $5000 off, two said 4%, another 3% and a couple would match the best I could find. In the end, I went with a dealer 30 miles away and a $5000 discount - 5.4%.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

Thanks for sharing. I figure $5000 discounts will be more common by winter time and after the initial surge of early adopter orders wears off. Does anyone else agree or disagree with my thinking? Please don't disagree and burst my bubble - I'm willing to wait 5 months to save $5000 (there are other financial factors at play).

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

Jazz Man: What dealer did you end up going with? The people at Prime Porsche are great and were giving me a huge discount on a new Turbo (13K off in stock model/ color was not what wife and I wanted)...However at the end of the day I went with Herb Chambers Burlington, IMO their service is not as good as Prime but they were able to secure an allocation for me and give me a good (not 13K good but good) discount on a new build Turbo.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

i think you profit more from the good service of a nearby dealer, than winning 5000 bucks and having to buy a plane ticket, only to have red cheeks bringing it into a dealer nearby saying: please service my porsche that I didn't buy from you.

maybe i'm too nice of a person...

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

It has been my experience that the service department didn't care (or even know) where the car was purchased. It is my understanding that sales and the service / parts departments are separate business units. I've never had any problems or questions related to where I purchased the car. For this purchase, since I'm buying from a dealer within 30 miles of my home, I plan to use their service department. However, if they are idiots, I'll go to another dealer. I have about 6 to choose from within a 30 mile radius.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

Kamal911: I tried Prime first as they are only 8 miles from my home. Unfortunately, they would only take $3500 off of a 2009. I got the best deal from Rietzl and Porsche of Nashua and ended up going with Nashua. They were very responsive and friendly. Today, they'll be entering my order into the Porsche system and will be asking some questions and favors of PCNA. This will be the true test of exactly how good they are.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

I tried both of those dealers as well...Porsche of Nashua was very responsive, however they were upfront with me about not being able to secure me an allocation on a 997TT (which I appreciated) so we never got into prices... Rietzl on the other hand was also very friendly on the phone but never returned my calls about getting me an allocation...Good luck with your purchase I am sure Porsche of Nashua will keep you happy and congrats on your new purchase.

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

A good dealer will value all business: new car sales, warranty repairs and routine servicing/maintenance. We, as customers pay for servicing, while PAG or the local Porsche importer pays the dealership for warranty items. So the dealer doesn't do anything for free and gets paid for whatever they do.

So, in the case of warranty repairs, just because you might not be paying (directly), the dealer still values this income from PAG or the local Porsche importer and the dealer only receives this income because you (as the customer) chose that dealership for warranty repairs rather than some other dealership.

If a dealer treats a customer poorly because the car was not purchased from that dealership, that is frankly wrong and I would use another dealership.

There are so many reasons why a person might get a car serviced or repaired at a different dealer from where the car was bought e.g. you move to another part of the same country or even another country (e.g. within the EU).

Re: Discounts on newly ordered facelift cars

One more thought. You do pay indirectly for the warranty repairs too. When you buy a new car, the price includes a 'notional amount' for warranty repairs that PAG builds into the price. They base this on the average cost of warranty work done on their cars. Some cars will require more and some will require less warranty work to be done.

I'm sure PAG are smart enough to hedge this warranty liability exposure in some way too - e.g. by getting liability insurance in the insurance market for the warranty work they pay for.
